Hello everyone, I've been a proud owner of a 2004 Yukon since 2013. We are the third owner of this very reliable machine. However, it has now caused us some trouble. Because of this, we recently purchased a 2023 Yukon XL Denali. But, we want to get our '04 back operational.


I have a 2004 Yukon that ran hot on my wife 2 months ago. I was able to top off the coolant and oil and she was able to make it home. We let our Yukon sit in the garage for the last two months while pondering what to do with it. (she drove my personal truck while I drove my work truck) Yesterday, I went to move our Yukon and it didn't crank. Battery was dead. Hooked charger up and battery ended up being faulty. Installed new battery and now it will not fire. Starter spins engine freely and it sounds like it wants to start but doesn't. In addition, the gauges do not work and windows do not operate. Brand new battery, vehicles been in garage last two months.... Im at a loss. Please help!! I have checked the fuses in the engine compartment and the fuses in the side of the dash on the drivers side. PLEASE HELP! Thank you in advance!

take the battery cables off and wire brush them (even if they look ok) and be sure the ground is attached very well
then try to start it again, your symptoms souind like a classic poor electrical connection

Really need to start with the basics. Do as @Doubeleive suggested but then...Do you have fire/spark? Do you have fuel pressure? It overheated, drove home and then sat for 2 months. What do the plugs look like? Do a compression test and a cooling system pressure test.

Ooooops! Missed that. Should read all the way thru. Yea, gauges and windows not working but engine spinning as it should? After only sitting for 2 months. Some wires chewed on somewhere?

If your automotive electrical diagnosing skills aren't up to par, find someone you trust who can do that for you. Otherwise this could be a long road to properly diagnose your issue via the innerweb like this.

If you are handy with a multimeter, then go to town on it and report back to us so we can do a better job at helping you out here.

You have lice and fleas as we say in Germany....

The thing with the coolant and cranking but not starting is one thing.

The electrical problems something else .

The electrics need cleaning of the ground points. as already written and the engine needs diagnostics.

If there was a lack of oil and coolant, that sounds like a cylinder head gasket.

How does the oil look on the oil cap? Is there light brown foam? What does the coolant look like? is there oil in it?

And as Or VietVet wrote, you should look at the spark plugs and do a compression test.
