Be warned though- changing the entire interior to black is a huge undertaking and I've seen some ugly consequences and only one or two that looked ok. And only doing half of it is even uglier.

I'm going to try to do what I can, with help of some buddies and my dad if he wants to get some action! If all fails, I will understand that it is my fault because I'm the one thats doing it. I thank you for your concern, and advice!

People have died the carpet, the seats and as for the headliner either you can dye it or recover it. There's how-to's on these mods as well as painting the plastic. Good luck.

So I think I’ve decided that I’m going to do the interior how I want it, and then work my way out. The simplest way to put it is this: I want it as dark as I can get it whenever there is no light. For some reason I like the idea of being hidden in my truck.

What I want to do first is the headliner, it’s tan/champagne right now and its starting to peel back anyways. I am wanting to replace it with black fabric, something I can pick up at Hobby Lobby or somewhere local.

Next I’m wanting to re-paint the plastics. All I can think of are the door panels, the console lid, and the entire dash. As of right now they are gray. I’m not too sure of how to go about doing this but I’ve got an idea. I’m thinking I can take all of the plastics out in one day and over the next few paint them. I used a sort of bedliner whenever I repainted my roof rack and was thinking I could do the same on the interior. Maybe not? I read online the fumes are super toxic (obviously) but I thought maybe I could air it out for a few days. If that doesn’t work I can use a specialized type paint or even plasti-dip.

Next are seat covers. I’m going to be getting simple black ones, but I’m not sure what brand? I don’t know much about seat covers. And my girlfriend loves the seat heaters, would it still come through?

How hard is the headliner to replace? I was told I can either leave the one in there on or take it out and cut out the places I need to in the new fabric and use a glue made for it.

For the plastics, how hard are these to get out and how hard are they to get back in? Would I need to sand them down in order for paint to stick? I’m most worried about painting the dash because I don’t know any way I can get that out.

@Rocket Man hits the nail on the head. Take your time with everything but safety issues and your build will turn out well, like you want it to. More importantly, to get the most out of this forum, READ READ READ. Read it all, bro. In depth research here will pay dividends over and over again.

Main problem with the interior is all the airbags and airbag connections, plus other electrical parts, I’d buy something else before you do that, it’ll never be worth the time (time is money) and money you’ll have into it. Not trying to shoot down your dreams, but thats almost a custom job.

I’m trying to find the simplest way to do this. If I end up thinking it’s too much I have no problem backing down from what I know I can’t do.

Meanwhile whenever I got home from work I finished the LED conversion!

I think I’ll be settling with replacing the headliner cloth with some black felt and then throwing on black seat covers. This seems to be the simplest way and I’m sure it’ll darken it a bit. Plus a window tint and I’ll be happy!

@ScottyBoy rebuilds clusters on here.
Yes, I do rebuild them but I mainly just do LED conversions. Here's one I actually completed yesterday for a 2005 Duramax. He supplied the Escalade lense, the needles, and the Escalade diesel gauge overlay. I installed 7 new stepper motors, resoldered the resistors that are prone to solder joint failure, installed white LEDs, and I shaved the blue film off the back of the gauge overlay so that the gauges are truly pure bright white.

This was $150, with me supplying the LEDs and the new stepper motors. The customer supplied the new overlay, Escalade lense bezel, and the new needles. I've done a LOT of work for him over the years, this is like his 4th or 5th truck I have done work for over the years.
And when a customer wants a new gauge face or new needles installed when I am doing an LED conversion, I usually don't charge anything extra (if the customer supplies the needles) since I have to remove the face and needles anyways. It's no extra work for me, so I don't feel I should charge extra to install them for him.

Welcome and fyi Those led guage lights will not work in your 03.
03-06 have to be soldered in.
Being cold out doesn't help your cause with the trim glue.
I know you're on a budget but please invest in the eraser wheel. Not only is it safer for your paint, and fingers lol, but it's waaaayyy faster. Plus you can use it over and over again on your next vehicles and friends vehicles. They last awhile. In the end you will spend more money on bottles of goof-off.

But most importantly you're on the right track getting those ugly side moldings off to begin with.
Excited to see the color changing footwell lights. Pretty cheap. I might buy a kit myself.

Since u guys are talking about the rubber wheel like would a hard eraser work? Just curious because I’m gonna go ahead and remove my moldings of my NNBS

Maybe, but it would still be a LOT of trouble doing it by hand on an area as large as door moldings. Maybe on just a Tahoe badge on the tailgate/rear hatch but doing four door moldings by hand with an eraser will be extremely time consuming and it will be hell on your hands as well. I bought a rubber eraser wheel from Amazon for like 8 or 9 bucks shipped. And since I have Amazon Prime, it was here in two days with free shipping.

Well, it looks like the price went up slightly since I bought mine a few years ago, but they are still only about $10. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018WG2XYE/ref=sspa_dk_detail_2?psc=1

I would also invest in some plastic razor blades as well. They are a HUGE help when removing decals, adhesives, and double sided tape from surfaces that can easily be scratched or damaged with a metal razor blade.

Trust me, EVERYTHING will come off. It will end up leaving some slight hazing though or you may even see an outline on the paint in the shape of the molding. You just need to pass over it with some polishing compound and then there will be ZERO trace that it was ever there. When I De-badged my truck I just used some Megiuar's compound on a microfiber towel and rubbed it by hand for a minute or two and it looked like nothing was ever there.
