Motor is in with the LT4 hot cam, and man am I happy. Totally worth it in the tahoe. Tons of power.

Keep in mind that I am running 4.10 gears and 33s, so it still has plenty of torque down low, even in my big 4 door.

I have to break it in, then ill get some 1/4 mile times to see how much this cam helps out.

What does one of these hogs run stock?

1997 Chevrolet Tahoe LT 0-60 mph 8.7 Quarter mile 16.5

Not sure if those are 2door/4door or 2wd/4wd ...

I'm still on the fence about doing this to mine ... give some specs on the rest of the engine please. :D

did you have the heads machined? or you just go with the beehive springs?

I am very interested in doing this sometime in the future. You noticed a big power gain? What other mods do you have to the engine and air intake??

ok here are the new engine specs-
-350 4 bolt main; stock bore
-stock heads with GM beehive springs, 787 retainers, and 648 locks
-Black Bear tune- 93 octane, 5500 rev limiter, 75% torque reduction, tuned for cam
-semi-built trans
-spectre CAI
-Jantzer 78mm throttle body w/ shaved butterfly plate
-mpfi conversion
-pace setter shorty headers
-Magnaflow hi-flow cats
-Magnaflow muffler
-4.10 gears w/ Yukon Duragrip positraction
-285/75/16 tires

*rumor has it a set of edelbrock e-tec 170cc heads will get a good 40 or so hp on the L31, didnt have the extra 1200 bucks to spend.

raptorforme93- so far, the bottom end of first gear feels about the same as it did before the cam, then the motor hits powerband about 2700 rpms and it feels like it takes off. I hit second gear at 40 mph and second gear absolutely puts me back in the seat (keep in mind I weigh 200 lbs. LOL) up to 70 mph when i backed off the gas and said oh shit! haha

Damn man thats awesome. I definitely want my hoe to make some power in the future but for now most of my money is going into the exterior. I like your hoe man!

Don't mean to derail your cam thread but how do you feel about the Jantzer ported TB now that you've owned it for awhile? Worth the money? Thinking about buying one in a couple months then that'll probably be it for engine mods.

thanks raptorforme! and brandon, the throttle body i think was worth it. better throttle response with some more top end power (lets more air in). Its bored out to 78mm and it has the restrictor plate removed. flows good! i think i paid 145 for mine since i never sent my core back. i think it runs like 80 after the core is sent back. oh well lol.

this is the cam i want to run...get some quarter mile times asap bro. i ran a 14.9 with my mods. have yet to go into the motor. i would like to see what the cam will do. debating on tinkering with the 350 or dropping in a 5.3. sounds like you got yourself a nice setup

I did a write-up on Janzer, I discovered him. Best bang for ya buck mod! I had to re-learn how to drive b/w a NEW spring and bored TB, throttle response was NIGHT AND DAY! Had to feather the peddle off the line.

Glad the cam worked out, how did the tune go?

I must inform you guys, as much as I liked my hot cam, I switched it again over the summer to the ht383 cam... I couldnt deal with the idle/stalling issues anymore. The ht383 cam has a ton of stump pullin' bottom end, and it doesnt seem to fall off at the top either (shift at 5400rpm) My truck out runs an 04 hemi with an intake, exhaust and tune by a length in the 1/4 mile now, with the hot cam I used to get ***** by two or three lengths off the line. Of course a converter would help this problem, but for a motor that after my 411 swap wont rev past 6k, ill say ht383 cam > hot cam if youre running a stock converter.

justin at blackbear, it definitely ran better than the stock pcm, but the cam just wasnt cutting it for me, I switched it and I love the wide powerband now, especially all the bottom end power.
