LED Light Bar mounted in Z71 Rack?

I want to mount a LED Bar in my Roof Rack, just in front of the first crossrail. Kinda like the "Fuzz" do with their overheads. Anyone have one mounted there, pics, bracket setup? I've only found 1 pic of it being done.

The only downside I see is the light output will not be as strong since the roof is reflecting a lot of the beam. Better projection if there are no obstacles

I've thought about this but facing the rear, with a slight tint. Just for those tailgaters/impatient ass holes in traffic. Also auxiliary reverse when light is needed.

Done it. Been done about a year. Lights up great. I actually have mine mounted between the front caps. 42in bar used brackets for a 52in curved bar.

I order the brackets for a 52 like I said. But I had to open them up some to fit correctly. I welded three nuts on some 1/8 flat stock about an inch wide put them on the inside of the caps and used stainless bolts.

That's actually a really good way to cut down on the extreme foreground lighting that actually hurts your distance view because it's so bright.

Crcz71 - does it interfere with your sunroof at all?

It doesn't it it sits an inch back from the weather stripping for the sunroof. It lights up great. I didn't want mine over the windshield due to wind noise and I didn't like the idea of drilling into the body. At least this way it be easier and cheaper to replace the caps on the roof rack.

How'd you run the wire?

I knotched the bottom of the cap. The rubber sleeve the wires are in made a nice tight seal between the cap and gasket. Then drilled a hole in the roof. I didn't want to drill in to the body at the door seals cause of wind noise and more of a chance for water to leak in. The plugs for the light bar were to big to run into the cabin so I ran wires to it from inside. So it's a smaller hole and less chance for leaks. So far I've not seen any signs of water getting in. I ran water over it for several minutes when I installed it. It's been rained on several times also with no issues.

Where u mount it at on the first cross brace?

Used some 2" angle brackets and some 5/16" x 1" carriage bolts to the rails themselves. The LED bar acts as its own strut across. Solid AF!

Interesting. This gives me a better plan of attack to mount one in the back in place of the "roller" facing rear for dark areas in reverse and tailgaters that don't catch the hint when I slow down.

I was really surprised how well it all went together. The bar with the brackets on it that were included, fit damn near perfectly between the side rails. And mounting it to the rails made it super secure. Drilled the hole for the wires under the cap so no wires can be seen at all. I've got the 6-HI mod, and now the LED bar comes on with them too.
