Keyless Entry

Hey guys, my 97 Tahoe OEM keyless entry range is only about 10 feet with a new battery and new remote. What can I do to extend the range? Also are the lights suppose to blink or horn blow when I lock or unlock via the keyless remote?

That's about the range I get, maybe a few feet more but it'***** or miss.

No, the lights don't flash. With unlock, the interior lights come on but that's it. The horn chirps with two presses of the lock, but nothing else.

I remember seeing something where someone ran a piece of wire from the keyless entry receiver and it acted like an extended antenna. I cannot find it now...try a google search.

Thanks for the info... my horn doesn't chirp with 2 presses of the lock. Wonder what is wrong??

Could be a bad receiver which may explain the loss of range. Here are the diagnostics for the horn not sounding with the remote:

Connector C210 which is plugged into the "convenience center", on firewall near the parking brake pedal...

Door lock receiver connector:

It's under the dash, driver side...

Alldatadiy.com has online subscriptions. Not sure if it is exactly the factory service manual, but a lot of it looks like it could be.
