New box for the sub should be here tomorrow I hope. But to keep busy until then I thought I would post a pic of where I mounted my switch to kill the amp.

I like to keep things hidden as much as possible.

The Rosen actually has sub controls on the touch screen (level, on/off, frequency) but I figure if there is no need for the sub then there is no need to have the amp powered up.

I ordered a speaker box for a single 12" sub to go between the second row captains chairs from Rodney's boxes on EBay.

He currently doesn't have a box listed for a Suburban only a Tahoe. The floor is different due to the shorter wheelbase so the Tahoe box only has a standoff on the end towards the front of the truck and the back sits up on the rear floor board where it steps up. The Suburban has a longer wheelbase so the step up is further back requiring a standoff on both ends.

I spoke with him and after discussing it I told him how to modify it to work in a Surburban and he built it to my specs.

It arrived today and evidently the drop down notch in the floorboard of a Tahoe is wider than a Suburban so I will have to trim about a 1" square off of both sides of both ends to make it sit level.

No big deal... 5 mins worth of work.

After unboxing....This is how it arrived. It has poly fill in it which I am not 100% sure how I feel about it as I have never used it before but I left it in and pushed it down to one end to make room for the sub.

This was after wiring and installing the sub.

I will get pics tomorrow of it installed in the truck after I make the notches to make it sit level. Right now it is either leaning towards one seat or the other.

Yeah, no way you priced oem moldings! The flat ones, denali and 2010 and newer moldings are about $800 a set.

I was referring to the plain ones which mine has; but they've gone up since I last looked, over $100 each now! And you're right about those with the chrome; one of those was $188 before shipping!

GM is really really proud of those things for some reason!

Poly fill slows down the sound waves a little to make the sub sound as if it's in a slightly bigger enclosure. If the box volume is on the small end for that sub, the poly fill will help. It's gotta be loosely stuffed in there, not densely packed. You can let the speaker magnet squash it down, but it's nothing worth removing the speaker for. Having it fire down at the floor will smooth out the response a bit.

Mr ken is a handy guy, im actually surprised he didn't make a custom box himself:think:

In all honesty this is the first speaker box I have ever bought instead of building it myself.

I bought it for a few reasons.

A. I am getting lazy in my old age.

B. I am out of work do to being hit by a semi while on my motorcycle coming home from work and I am not physically able to do a lot of the things I am used to doing myself.

C. The box was originally $100 + $46 shipping... there was a 15% coupon on EBay and after doing the math for materials it just wasn't worth my time.

Actually It came out even cheaper because the guy doesn't market this box for Suburbans, only Tahoes, so after talking with him he modified the box for me. It came in and the drop down ends didn't fit properly in the Suburban so I had to notch it. I sent him pics with specs to make it fit right and he is sending me $50 back for doing the R&D for him.

Win win in my book.

So that is the difference between the Tahoe and Suburban floors between the seats.... about 2" wider on the Tahoe.

And here is the finished product installed.

Here is the front of the box where it fits down into the notch in the floor with the Weathertechs.
