Don't you have an auxillary input jack right in the stereo face itself - at least my 07 Tahoe has it - no nav so I'm not sure about those. You just plug your 3.5mm cable in a and the radio starts playing the ipod.
If he's talking about a true "interface" that would be something like what a bunch of 3rd party companies have been attempting to develop where you can do some ipod controls on the radio's touch screen (if you have it). I had been hunting for one when I had my Escalade but they all seemed to have various issues. A lot of it has to do with the computer system(s) that's driving these things nowadays. As Rich indicates, if you have the 3.5mm jack on your dash that's probably the best way to go until GM comes out with their own ipod kit (which I've read has been in "development" for a couple of years now so don't hold your breath).
