I installed a avic-8200nex with idatalink gm5 but cant get calls to work

Sooo many questions about this. OK, so get the scoche kit. What is this idatalink you guys are referring to along with this GM5? I went to Best Buy and they recommended this expensive harness kit for like 129 that gives plug and play for radio and also steering wheel. Its supposed to retain everything. I want to be fully prepared for this. What are these things you guys are using?

The idatalink lets you connect to the odb port and see certain features from the vehicle. Th gm5 is the specific harness needed for the nnbs. For $129, it sounds like they are getting you the harness that retains chimes, steerig wheel controls and on star. The idatalink and gm5 harness retail is about $200 for both, so BB is not providing that.

If you dont care for on-star and dont have bose, there is a cheaper harness.

I definitely dont care about on-star but I do have Bose, just not the one with the speaker in the middle. I'm very curious on the features you can see regarding ODB. I wish someone had a video of all this stuff :(. Definitely appreciate the feedback

Doors open, check engine codes, you can clear the check engine codes, you can see all the gauges, tb position, speed, intake temp, etc etc, backup sensors on screen, tire pressure, load, all that fun stuff. You cannot see oil pressure. Ill take pictures later if i remember.

That sounds hot! So the GM5 alone allows you to see all this detail?
The idatalink is the brain. The GM5 is the specific harness for the nnbs.

The harness that comes with the idatalink is universal and useless to us, so throw it away. I was very confused when I got it and knew nothing of the GM5.

Yep. I am tracking. You need both of those. Shouldnt have said both harnesses as the first link is the maestro unit itself with a generic harness. 2nd link is the nnbs specific harness that retains all major functions.

For some reason i thought i had read that the vehicle functions wouldnt work with our Tahoes. I am stoked now that i found this thread. Cant wait to get my 8200 installed.

All vehicle functions work for mu hoe accept heated seats since it didn't come with them. Every other function works I also bout an GM ob2 replicator so I can keep it hooked up, along with my alarm that needs ob2 access and still have the port open for diagnostics.

so you can control heated steats and climate control through the head unit? Thats hot if that was the case. I thought you could only monitor/reset stuff, not change or turn on functions. When people ride in backseat, i tell them they can use heated seats and they have trouble finding buttons. Would be nice to turn it on from the front.

Yea i was under the impression it was only a monitoring system. Didnt think you could actually turn on other systems through the head unit.

On the new fords you can from the factory bc that's how its controlled. On ours, that is not an option

Did you ever get the 8200 installed?

I ran across this thread while doing some searching to see if the AVIC-8200NEX would fit in my 2010 Yukon XL. Crutchfield claimed that it would not - but then I found this thread and a few others where people had done it.

I just have to pick up a few more pieces (the iDataLink Maestro, the GM5 cable, the Scosche faceplate - am I missing anything) - and then maybe I can get the unit installed next weekend.

Crutchfield has an install kit - but it doesn't look like it comes with the Maestro and it has the Metra faceplate kit.

I'm thinking I might be better piecing out the extra install pieces rather than going with the Crutchfield kit.

They said it was because the screen pivots down and out but when I explained that my factory nav does that already they just said we'll try it then. Kind of poor service but oh well. From reading though it just seems like light sanding of the dash kit allows everything to work just fine. I hope to have it installed soon. I am trying to figure out which double din kit looks and fits the best. Seems like there are great and horrible reviews of every kit out there. Lol

And I am piecing my own install kit together through eBay.

It doesnt technically fit. I have to grab the bottom lip of the screen to get it to slide down and push it to get it to go back up.

Someone said the kit can be trimmed so that it moves smoothly.

I dont open it much bc I use the 128gb sd card for movies and inuse my usb for music and Android/Apple auto, so that does not phase me.
