Did this mod today, tested reception. Definitely WORSE, and I'm on the outskirts of NYC where these stations broadcast from. Granted, the only time that I listen to FM in the 'hoe is when the mrs asks me to put it on....but if da mrs ain't happy, then nobody's happy.

Guess it's time to research a stubby antenna...

Narco do you know if that Escalde cowl piece would fit on a 04 Silverado.

I'd say yes, I believe they are all the same interchangeable piece. I know on GMFS a couple guys have done it to their GMCs and Chevys.

My antenna is ****** in there. I was gonna try this with my onstar antenna and if it worked, buy another one. I tried takin it out with plyers and it scraped the shit out of it.

I did this the other night and just got done switching it back. I lost 5 out of 6 stations I usually listen to.

Has anybody tried some sort of fm booster or anything?

I've been considering going back also and would be interested in the booster if there is one that has been tried and works. I haven't constantly lost any stations but one cuts in and out pretty bad and all but maybe 2 have enough deterioration to make me consider going back.

I wonder if there are any other creative locations that would give better reception... under the cowl? along the inside of the windshield pillar under the plastic trim piece?
Do we know what is causing the bigger problem? Is it because it is horizontal, or because it is surrounded by metal?

Primarily the latter. the former doesn't help much though.
