i am new to this site and have a problem. I gave a 2005 Yukon XL THAT I LOVE DEARLY! The muffler and exhaust needed replacing so I took it to the local mechanic shop and they replaced the muffler and exhaust but now it is louder than can stand!! I hate it! I talked to the mechanic and he said all after-factory mufflers are louder, but this sounds like a diesel or like I'm heading for the racetrack! I paid $350 for the replacement, and he said a factory muffler would cost $1500. Is that right? He said there were 2 resonators that he put back in and couldn't add another. What can I do to make my precious vehicle ride as quiet as it used to be? I really don't want to fork out $1500.

I dont see how a new exhaust could be louder than a rusted one unless it was straight pipes or they forgot a connection or screwed up the cat converter. Its possible and dont want to confess they broke it. I would get a second opinion. Have another trusted exhaust shop look at the exhaust job you just had done. Preferably have it done by a shop thats been in business for a long time. If their inspection determines improper maintenance or negligence then you more than likely have a legal right to go back for a refund.
