Mine has been sitting in my shed for a couple years. Stock hood is rusting now at the front edge so I can't procrastinate any more. I think next spring will be a major transformation for my Suburban, especially now that it is no longer my wife's DD, it can be down for a little while to get some much needed love.

May I ask how much the paint job ran? I have been considering this for my Silverado. Thanks!

It depends on what you want to do. I had the whole hood painted with clear coat on top (just color - no finish underneath). They did strip paint off of it to fix a couple of very minor dings up front. I also had it blended which means spraying a portion of the front fenders and then putting a new clearcoat on them. That ran $1200. If the hood is a near color match, you don't have to paint the bottom. Sometimes just painting the hood is a close enough match that you don't have to blend. I'd still say worse case is $1200 and you could possibly knock $500 off of that if the stars align.

A lot of questions get asked about this swap. Lets get this all settled here.

What you need. 00-02 CHEVY Silverado HD hood.(IE 2500/3500) Notice the big, bold, underlined, red word. A GMC 2500/3500 hood is different, not the same do not waste your time with looking/pricing them.

The hood swap IS a direct bolt on for a TAHOE & SUBURBAN (NBS - 00-06) nothing else is required.

The hood swap IS a direct bolt on for the Yukon & Yukon XL (Denali included). By that i mean it does bolt on BUT you do have to trim around the headlights to make it fit correctly. Some have even mentioned slotting the hood hinge where it bolts to the truck. This pulls the hood forward giving it better alignment around the lights.

I would recommend having a shop do this kind of mod if you are not 100% on it. It is very tedious and a time consuming mod. In the end it is worth it.

This mod is only for NBS Tahoes/Suburbans/Yukons/Yukon XLs.

The Verified GM Part Number for the Chevy HD Hood: 15745931

It’s been done, quit a bit actually . Just graph a 08+ hood skin onto a nbs hood. 100% Welding and fabrication will be needed

I think I'm the only one who doesn't really like the appearance of the HD hood swap. It looks ok on a couple of trucks, mostly ones that are slightly beefed up - like larger tires, maybe a slight lift. Mine would qualify, but in looking at lots of others with stock height and tires and lowered, I just don't care for it.

Maybe it will grow on me.

That is a great look! I need rocker panels, but I can put this on my wish list for sometime in the future.
