I saw this at my Glock forum:

"A bit of worthless trivia. I read this on the internet so it has to be true.

A typical service station sells 87, 89, and 91 octane gasoline. They just have two underground tanks, 87, and 91. The 89 octane gas comes from both tanks and is mixed at the pump.

True or false? Anyone know?"

Yes, the fuels are mixed at the pump. I dont remember the ratio, but its like 60/40 at some locations. Other locations is 50/50. If you have a 5 octane difference from regular to premium, its 60/40ish. If its 4 Octane, its a 50/50.

I wonder if the stations with unleaded 88 and E85 do too.
E85 is mixed at the plant, and then delivered.

I mean like 87+ a percentage of E85 to equal the 88/E15.

Little known fact, if you live in a location with a 5 octane difference, your actually being ripped off by .5 octane point. If you know how many gallons your going to put in, put half of regular in, and half of premium in, same cost, but a slightly better gasoline.

Blender Pumps

Another trivia item. As a motorcyclist, I never liked blender pumps. Figured the first bit was the last guy’s 87, for which I’m paying premium price. And I’ll leave a hose full of premium for the next guy. Things you think about when you’re only buying small amounts.

Some blenders are easily identifiable because there’s 3 grades but only one hose.

95% of the time I trigger the pump off lever and give the handle a squeeze to get the last little bit of fuel out. Been doing this since the gas crunch of the Jimmy Carter era. I pretty sure I'm beaten "the man" out of a gallon or 2 by now. :pepper:

The Mobil station I get my E85 at has a seperate hose/handle for it from the other hose/handle that's used for 87/89/93
