Has anybody found a decent portable compressor/inflator?

Anything I've ever found has had trouble airing up a lawn mower tire, let alone something on a larger vehicle.

Can't break the budget either though.

I keep a ryobi 18v one in my work car at all times. It will pump up a suburban tire. A tire for my 3/4 ton ram (load e 35's) not a shot in h*** but I didn't buy it for that. Works great for what I use it for (car/ suv and atv tires). Also nice that you set the psi you want and it shuts off once it gets to it.

we got a dewalt in the work trailer, works pretty good, we use it mostly for airing up lawnmower tires, but also have been using it to air up a slow leak on the work truck. cost like $150, but worth every dollar really.

they also sell a combo jump box and air compressor.

I got one of them 45$ AutoZone “slime” brand ones when I had that issue with my Tahoes tires it takes like 5-10 min to pump up but it does the job

How durable are the hoses and valves on the ones mentioned? The el cheapo Harbor Freight and Tractor Supply type ones have a problem there. Won't clamp on and hold, hoses degrade, crack and leak, etc.

Just get one that uses the batteries of the tools you have. Dewalt, Milwaukee, ryobi, etc. I have dewalt and had my inflator for 5 years works great.

I have had my slime pump for like 20 years, it's not the worlds fastest for car tires but works, use it all the time to air up the kids bikes, and other things
I recently broke the plug end but just patched a new better one on it.
I would not get one with a digital "lcd" screen as that will likely fail
after scrolling thru ebay I actually for the exact same one "used" I don't think you can go wrong with it for just a basic occasional use pump

in the pickup I did a more permanent solution ARB pump hardwired and mounted in the engine bay in with a quick connect and I carry about a 10' hose

I used a Viair 88p for a long time before I mounted onboard air. Fills 4 tires from 20 to 40 psi well.

I agree, what ever your battery power tool brand you use. I use Ryobi and it works great.

If you're a scrounger find a junk vehicle like my 08 Envoy that has an onboard compressor for the air ride. Factory it comes with a long hose and is made to be able to pump up tires. Adapt it and mount it on your Tahoe.

I've been considering on board air.

Not big on carrying a compressor and a battery, so looking at 12V plug in units.

I have a bunch of Ridgid stuff, never looked at there compressor which turns out it is "hybrid" uses there 18v battery or can be plugged into 12v
also has a set it and forget it option (automatic shutoff), can be used as a "duster" also. not a fan of the lcd screen though

I've had this Milwaukee M12 inflator for about 3 years now. Set the pressure and walk away to get something else done. It shuts off automatically at the set pressure. The lithium battery stays full when stored for months on end if necessary. I'd buy the larger battery for it if you plan on doing only truck tires.

I don’t know about the hose on mine I think it’s rubber with a braided cover over it but it does screw onto the valve stem I do like that part

I recently bought a 4 wheel travel trailer and had to air up the tires to 65 PSI for the 600 mile drive back home. I have a small "Autojoe" brand rechargeable compressor that I carry in my Suburban, it struggled to get all 4 tires aired up and the fully charged battery died before I could air all the tires up (it got the 4 tires up to 50 PSI) and it takes a long time to recharge. I walked over to Autozone and bought this compressor: https://www.autozone.com/tire-repai...or/1392310_0_0?spps.s=4815&new_store_set=true and had all 5 tires (including the spare) fully aired up in less than 10 minutes. It's automatic, set the pressure you want and it stops when it's at that pressure, it has a 30' extension hose, clips directly to the battery for power, and comes with a nice carrying case too. It now resides in a cargo space in my camper for any future need (I have a full size compressor in my garage so I have all the air I need at home).

Every single portable compressor or jump box/compressor set up I’ve ever purchased has been total crap and let me down

This is what I use.

Custom little rig I set up. Maybe not visually appealing to most but it’s stand alone, depends on nothing, reliable and can fill any tire, to any PSI desired. I can top tires off in seconds when the seasons change and tire PSI drops enough to make TPMS sensors illuminate. And yes, nitrogen DOES provide [an often negligible] benefit over compressed air because of the reduced resistance of the lighter gas.
