A GMT800 isn't gonna get 18mpg, no way, no how.

A 900 might have a shot with newer engine cals, AFM, the 3.08 rear and the six speed.

Tires make a huge difference. You want a rock-hard compound in a highway tire. I know my Goodyear Duratracs might be costing me as much as 2 MPG.

Why would it make it worse I drive over 60 miles a day on a bad day all freeway minus like 4 miles city the city mileage would tank but over the 50+ other freeway miles it’d make a difference?

Lower gears will hurt your city MPG, and help your highway MPG. You have to use more energy to get to the same speed from a stop as its harder to get a lower gear turning. This was overcame in the latter years with more gears in the tranny to offset.

I think I am saying that right.

I’m not gonna be doing nearly any more city driving , **** these coworkers. He refused to come in and help me so no more rides for his druggie ass. **** city all I’m gonna do anymore is like 2 miles max a day rest will be highway 40-90+ miles. I need the MPG I might switch jobs so its gonna be a gamble if I need a truck.

$1000 a month in truck expenses before maintenance isn’t a good idea o with how much I’ll be making less going to school

I passed a Ram doing that the other day, only he was 5 feet behind the ****** truck's bumper!

I did that once and got 26 mpg for a spell.

I do it when i am alone. Wife and kid with me i stay 50 or so feet back.
In my old 89 2.0 5 speed Beretta i drafted an 18 wheeler from Princeton il to Omaha on I-80 knocked down damn near 40mpg at 70.
Got on the. CB and told him what i wanted to do and he said kid if i hit the brakes youll go right under the trailer. I said well thats on me, and away we went.

They did a study on fluid dynamics and that’s not how it works you don’t get more.

I just found a cheat code to not spending as much on gas, my coworkers need rides everyday to work we worked out a deal $50 each every week $100 a week would cover my auto insurance plus some only one is kinda out of the way but I’d still profit because it’s towards my house. I just have to exit onto a major street , stop for a second and go home and drop off coworker a street down from me. $50 a week is still cheaper than Atleast Jeśus rebuilding a junkyard boxer engine with my guidance and engine swapping his boxer pulled a Subaru and blew up.not including his gas and insurance/maintenance.
I mean if I’m spending 1,200 a month currently it’d drop to $800 a month and be much much more economical, especially if I modify my truck and get better mileage.

I just looked back at this thread and saw the thing about getting more gas when it is cool.

Fuel, in most cases (except maybe airports and military bases), is stored in underground storage tanks and usually below frost lines in cold climates.
The temperature of fuel pumped would remain pretty constant, no matter the time of day or night and no matter how hot or cold it got.

In the US, fuel pumps selling to the public have to be measured and certified by the local/county Inspector of Weights and Measures for accuracy. If the pump meter shows 1 gallon, the inspector's test container has to be filled to 1 gallon.
This is not because they care about us, really. It is about making sure the local/state/federal gas taxes are charged accurately and pumps have not been messed with.

I don't believe the claim made by the "How Stuff Works" blog...
