actually jerry it does mean something.. I think max was telling me something about the Z71 bump stops and how you will no longer bottom out any more they are actually called jounce stops

Interesting... It just rides so nice right now I would hate to jinx it by messing with it at all. I was actually PMing Max about doing away with the autoride and going with a set of bilsteins. This was when I had a crappy ride with the rubber removed so I decided to give it a whirl with the rubber installed and that's when everything changed. Probably a difference between Jounce and Bump Stops then..

Bro, I wasn't even *talking* to you, just contributing some of the knowledge I've accumulated in 35 years of building cars and owning a hot rod and chopper shop.. Man, there's always one in every crowd. Ride on your bumpstops Amigo, it's your car, but you're still misinformed.

And really, I've never seen ANY car or truck suspension system designed to REST on the bumpstops. Do you understand that they're there to prevent the suspension from BOTTOMING OUT in cases of extreme travel???










Didnt mean to ruin your whole day like that, and i didnt know i had fancy pants coils or a fairly mainstream set of shocks i got on sale months ago. Also, where tahoes and yukons come out of the factory SITTING on the bumpstops, it seemed like a legitimate question to ask if there was anyone who had modified that portion of their suspension and what the outcome was or if there were any ill-effects of it.
As a side note i do have the drop spindles as well as keys up front

And now isnt useless to have 2 people post in the same thread and contribute nothing

tidbit of info.....

Bump stop is there to limit suspension travel, thus decreases "body roll" - prevents rollover tendency of the vehicle.

However, the bump stop may be set at a certain distance to limit travel of other front or rear end components, i.e. CV AXLES, SHOCKS

In other words, over-compression of the suspension may lead to excessive cv axle angles/stress/ accelerated wear/etc. May also lead to shock bottoming out (internally) and destroying the valving.

Just 2 cents

You may not have seen it b4 but my truck and alot others from the factory were resting on the bump or jounce stops. I recently changed to the Z71 jounce stops and the ride quality is good.

My z71 sat on the bumpstop up front when i got it, as well as every other tahoe and yukon ive seen that was running a stock suspension. Its supposedly to make the ride a little stiffer and the torsion bar more aggressive. I could be wrong tho, im misinformed.
i still want to try it, just a little hesitent to start experimenting with a cutting wheel.

so from reading through this, Im not ready to cut anything yet, not that low and ride is fine for me, but i could put z71 front bumpstops in my non z71 and be alright and ride a little better lowered?

the z71 jounce stops are supposed to prevent you from bottoming out.. max told me (since he's so low) it raised him up like half an inch but you'll be fine mike

dan at the very least you should take the bump stop out and see how it rides I love the way mine rides without it and I'm still debating whether I should cut the bracket out

I mean if you think about it you won't want to go back to stock bump stops again so you might as well and if you start noticing rubbing on your tires put in the after market bump stops

I cut my brackets and run a low pro poly stop and while I like the way it rides my tires hit the top of the fender well on big dips so I may go to the 1.5'' bullet stops which would be about the same height as the original bracket by itself. You can get poly stops any size/shape you want.....button, rectangle, bullet....ect.......

there is no bind issues with cutting them out and going with es short bumpstops. Ive done many 5 inch drops in front ie spindels/djm 3 inch a arms since late 99 and not one customers truck has had the 4wd axles break or snap or anything like that.

GM calls them Jounce Stops, and yes they are supposed to be close to or resting on the stops at ride height. Torsion bar ifs suspensions have little to no natural rebound so, unlike a coil spring or leaf spring setup, the suspension needs quite a bit of support and/or dampening to maintain ride quality and performance. My truck is sitting on compressed z71 stops and I have bilstein front shocks that feature an integrated bumpstop to further aid in controlling the front end. Regardless of suspension setup the front bumpstops should be addressed, I prefer the z71 bumpstops and have had the best luck with them thus far...really aids in handling as well.

But today i put the Z71 front stops/jounce in and it rides much better to me. Floats in the front end, and no vibrations from the front.. Just rides better to me..

what's up with that? one side lower than the other? I ask, because mine is the same way.... my front stops are cut, but one side is still touching the lower control arm, while the other one has some gappage.

I dont know. I have stock keys up front, all the way down, just to see how low it would go, had stops out, measured, pass. side is higher. (cant remember exact) put z71 stops in, havent measured yet, but looks higher still... Not sure.

thats what torsion keys are for.. there's 2 sides you can crank one up so it levels out

oh and might I add that getting shorter sway bar end links for the front will improve the ride quality THAT much more and you won't bottom out nearly as much on the cups

Yeah, after i thought about it, raise that side up. ha ha..

Dont shorter end links also help the rear? Do you happen to have them on yours Kasey? front & rear. where you get em?

see, I would have done that, but if I raise my left side anymore it will be higher than my left rear....it's all such a minimal difference that you can't tell looking at it...just bugs the shit out of me though lol

haha I know what you mean brandon people think I'm tweakin when I see one corner off but normally mine will sit fairly even left to right.. front to back is a different story depending on which sub box I have in lol

but I still don't have any for the rear I got the DJM ones on StylinTrucks and installed them but the sway bar was hitting the tie rod end then yesterday I flipped over the sway bar and its all good now rides great!

still need to find some for the rear
