Engine tries to crank when key is turned, but seems to struggle with fuel

I replaced my fuel pump about 3-4 months ago. Dropped the tank and lines were rusted through. It was bad. Then I paid Chevrolet to replace the lines that run up to the fuel rail.

When I turn the key, the engine turns over and it almost feels like the computer tries to keep pushing the engine to crank even after I let off turning the key. Sometimes after 3-5 seconds of doing that, it starts, other times it doesn’t. This is random. Maybe happens more after driving a while.

So, intermittent long crank before starting. Sounds like fuel pressure bleed off. Could have the fuel pump failure or a leaking injector or.....etc. Attach a fuel pressure gauge at the rail and see what it does after it starts and then you shut off. Does the pressure bleed off? What is the fuel pressure at idle?

More info about year and engine size would also be helpful.

Sorry about that... I have a 2007 Tahoe LT, 5.3L, Auto w/4x4. Can I pick up a fuel pressure gauge at Harbor Freight or rent one from auto parts store?

Yes. They are in the $30 range. Some times Auto Zones even have them available to rent for free.

Thanks for supplying the vehicle info. Watch 2-3 you tube videos on how to check the pressure at different stages, if you are unsure of the suggested steps.
