Emergency help... Transmission

I've got an 11 suburban, ltz, 4x4,towing pkg. Pulling a 3k lb trailer, and a loaded cab area. In Colorado, pulling up a pass. Truck down shifted to 4th gear, and felt like something popped, engine died. Temp was running 160ish before the pass, and got up to 200 when it happened. Any ideas? Truck will go into gear and pull forward, but feels like there is some hesitation. Thanks. Currently sitting on the side of the road.

How many miles on it? Did you check your belts and hoses? Check all fluids? Any leaks under it?

So you think that this is transmission related? Is the engine idling ok? Can you crawl underneath and jimmy the driveshaft and check the u-joints and yokes?

Do you have any kind of scan/diagnostic tool with you?

Any noises while Idling? Go through every gear and advise if it engages. Does the 4x4 engage? Were you pulling on 4x4?

Try shifting it manually through each gear? For ***** and giggles did you try backing it up and see how it feels?
