Driving a ppv tahoe

Regardless if you are law enforcement or not. Driving a ppv tahoe has its pros and cons.

PROs

1. When you get on the highway and hit cruise control in the passing lane people get out of the way.
2. When you put the turn signal on people dont try to cut you off.
3. Most people are nice.
4. People dont try to cut in front of you.
5. They dont tailgate you.

Cons
1. Everyone some how finds the law pretty quick
2. Even though their is no turn on red sign the people in front of you won't do it.
3. When the speed limit sign says 65 , some seem to want to do 55 in the passing lane.
4. There are people that hate cops and feds. About 5 percent I have had try to slow me down to 20 below speed limit.
5. I do not drive through drive through windows in fear of what they might do to my food.
6. People get nervous around me and freeze up. Because they might be drinking and driving, wanted, bad plates etc.

In conclusion I guess the no road rage and being nice on the road out weights the cons. Anyone have anything to add??

That sounds about right to me. I think the presence of my vehicle in traffic makes everyone around us safer.

I had one incident that I wish has been done to an LEO though. I was driving up a 4 lane divided highway when a motorcycle came off the highway to my right and merged into the right lane. I'm in the left. He looks at me. Looks again, then zips in front of me and slows down. Then he rotates around on his seat (yes, while driving), yells something, gives me the finger, and speeds off. He baits me several times like this and I don't respond. I wanted to report him to 911 but there was no tag on his motorcycle. My theory is he wanted me to give chase and then ambush me thinking I was LE. Of the weird things that have happened to me, that's the weirdest....and most dangerous.

In those instances call 911, tell the operator that there is a road rage incident taking place. Give them the who,what ,when ,where, and how, discription of the person doing it and direction u r heading and I'm sure they would not have a problem having a unit out there quick. Just remember to tell them you not sure what they are going to do next but if need be you will protect yourself and cargo.

We save lives!! I can't tell you how many times we see a car go by when we're in a parking lot, or pulling out of our driveway and see the driver and/or passenger(s) reach for, and fasten their seat belt.

But when using Wayz to navigate to a new place, we frequently hear 'be aware, police car ahead', only to find no cop up ahead. My wife figures it's our Tahoe.

One thing I'll add that I believe happens to everyone else as well, when that one person as you mentioned slows down to 10+ under the posted limit but remains in lane 1 on the highway (especially a 4+ lane highway), the moment you drive around them and you still aren't exceeding the speed limit........the driver of the slow car looks at you and is ready to cuss you and make gestures, but instead they see the wheels first and you can see the sinking feeling they get when they think they are road raging with the law.


What makes it even more interesting for me is when someone is questioning whether or not you are the popo and they pull even with you and try to sneak looks, and they see you talking on a mobile radio and immediately they slam on the brakes (I am with Emergency Services, we carry Motorola APX8000's).

Mine is an SSV with factory 20's, but still looks like a cop Tahoe with the lack of side molding, no luggage rack, and black mirrors/door handles. Some ******* broke into it a few weeks ago, when an LTZ was literally two houses down, probably looking for a gun or something.

Still, since it does kind of resemble a cop 'hoe...I hadn't considered #5 above. I rarely frequent fast food places but I'll take my daughter every now and then and get something when she does. Now I'm wondering...

7. This morning it was dark out. My windows are tinted here in AZ as dark as I can leagaly get them. So no one can see in but from the front window. I had a person running 10 under in the passing lane. He finally pulled to the right and I passed. He gets in behind me and turns on his bright lights and paces me. What a A Hole. So I just took my foot off the gas and as soon I started to slow down he backed way off. Still with the brights though. Some people just hate cops.

I certainly don't encourage or instigate road rage, but when someone opens the door I'll definitely show my ass. Usually the opportune time with the trainhorns is the easy and most efficient way to handle things......but if I was in your shoes with that same case you went through, I'd throw a brake check in there. Of course, you know.....when they cut their brights on I couldn't see? So I had to hit the brakes....

Also I've got 20% tint on the sides to match the factory tint and my whole windshield is 30%. No, its not legal........but yes its the best thing I've done, regarding tint. My Z06 has the same setup, makes a huuuuuuuuge difference with sunlight and hot interiors in the summer time.

Too many crazy effers out there. Probably the only times in life when I turn passive is in the vehicle. If they're riding my ass, I just slowly pull over. No telling how volatile a mood someone may be in.

I recall getting a ticket back in high school and having to go to the training thing on a Saturday morning to get the ticket off my record. The cop was talking about how people flash other people with their high beams if the oncoming car has them on. He said, "Now you have two blind idiots coming at each other instead of just one". Guess that mentality has stuck with me.

Yup I agree. In this rig I do find people who hate cops. I just turned my rear view mirrors back at them or flash my extra back up lights at them. But it's when I start to slow down or get it the right lane and slow down they do everything not to pass me . Then you know they mean to do what they did. No accident.

I broke up a drug deal once. Was pulling out of a parking lot and straight ahead of me there were 3 people making an exchange. They looked at me, tossed whatever was in their hands and all ran in different directions. It took me a minute to figure it out haha.

As for tailgater's with brights, I just rotate the ol LED spotlight so it shines straight back and flip it on.

I have 2 rigid LED spot lights built into my rear bumper. I put a momentary switch on them so I just bump them when I want to flash someone that's tailgating.

When my family and I would take trips to the beach (3 hours away, when we lived in Raleigh) my wife would never believe me about how traffic would slow down while I'm on the highway. Until I told her one trip to look behind us. She started laughing because of the line of vehicles that would not pass in both passing lane and slow lane. We were in the slow lane.

Another one. Any time a Trooper would drive by, I'd always get a friendly wave. Even now out by the coast. All the Troopers wave as they pass me.

I tend to have more of an issue with the Local PD, they seem to be on a higher horse and question me more often than not. But, now that we've been in the area for a couple of years, that has slowed down dramatically.
Mostly because I have met all of them from being stopped or them pulling up to and questioning me out of the blue. It doesn't bother me anymore but, it did for a the first year or so. Got old quick.

I know the guy who hit a few weeks ago didn't give a sh*t about my vehicle. He hit me without breaking at all. I could've had lights on and sirens blaring and I don't think he would've stopped. The trooper who came felt the same way, he even agreed with my thought of him hitting me on purpose. But, cant dwell on that, even though I get pissed every time I see the dents grrrrr.

I'm going to use the momentary switch idea if you don't mind. That's a great idea.

I have a bank of switches for different lights. But the one I have for those lights is just a momentary toggle switch. Make sure you get one that lights up. That way you know it's on and when it goes off. I have never had a problem with city cops yet. They stay away from me. I think they believe I might be internal affairs . Troopers get a little excited until they run my plates.

I have one switch for my light up front, its one that is lit up as well. I'll be adding a toggle for the rear that's for sure. Even if its just for backing up in my driveway or parking. Its good to have.

I don't have a lot of lane clearing in the Caprice, just people flying up on me in the left lane and then standing on the brake when they see the spot on the A-pilar. Why the roof and decklid covered with antennas doesn't do it, I don't know, but when they see the spot, they'll fly up, stop, then creep by. Even in daylight.

The Tahoe, though, clears out the lane we're in.
