Cursed Intake Manifold Bolts?

What i would like to know is what engines used the grommet style and what did not.
I also wonder if someone before you used valve cover bolts on your intake. Kind of looks like it to me but im an idiot.

I can actually say with confidence that this bolt holes are on the working side of the manifold, as pumping smoke through the throttle body hole causes it to billow out of the bolt hole without a bolt there

So it's gotta have SOME kind of seal, right?

My 5.3 and 6.2 both use the same bolts (looked up part number) and they do not have grommets. A little googling and the Gen III motors use grommets.

Some of us have the wrong stuff in our cars! LOL

Perhaps it was leaking out that hole because of an intake gasket leak right next to bolt location?
(easier without a bolt clamping the manifold)

Looking at aftermarket manifold bolts, they don't have anything special, looks like a regular bolt and washer.

Rubber was just there to alleviate stress on the manifold tabs maybe? idk...

Im at a loss here. I have R&R many LS intakes. I can not ever remember seeing a grommet on any intake hold down bolt.
What am i missing?

this was me reading along too.

I have never in my life seen seals on intake bolts. that's wild. my 2011 6.0 definitely doesn't have those style bolts.
I'm glad you guys are sorting it out.

if you're intake has these, maybe it's worth updating to a intake without it.

The bolts with the grommets on them are actually valve cover bolts. Take the grommets off and its the same as manifold bolts.

Nope. That picture you show is a valve cover bolt and does have a grommet, but it's a different size bolt and different size/shape bolt...

I'd have to disagree. I broke a manifold bolt in the past and used a valve cover bolt minus the grommet as a replacement. Besides the grommet the bolts are identical. The bolt is still in place.

I guess that's possible if the correct bolts are there, which makes my stomach turn a little, but since my last valve cover hasn't quite gone back on yet...

I KNOW the smoke was pouring out of that hole, but on close inspection, the bolt holes are in fact walled off from the working side.

Dang me for being so bleeping stupid, but thank you for the intelligent folks who have set me straight. Still got a couple more hurdles to climb before the intake can go back in, but I'm praying these stupid bolts will work with the grommets removed

If the bolt wasn’t properly securing the intake, it’s plausible your gasket was leaking and smoke was passing though the bolt hole.

For anyone who manages to be as stupid as me (I know, you have better odds of winning the lottery, LOL)...

The grommeted bolts are NOT the same as their ugrommetted counterparts. The bolt itself is just about the same length, albeit with less lead-in, but the sleeve is longer with a larger diamter. Since the sleeve is what makes it fit or not, this one went not...

It actually looked promising as the height was off by almost exactly a 1/2" flat washer thickness, and they seemed to torque nicely with said washer, but the "bank 1 too rich" and "bank 2 too rich" codes tells me it's not gonna fly.

Ordering the correct bolts now...

I've never seen a grommet one.
