Hey Atomic, what is the largest diameter washer that will fit on the top of the bushings where it comes into contact with your upper mount?

Nevermind, I figured it out. It looks as if a 3" washer will not clear the stock upper shock mount. However, one that is the diameter of 2.75" or 2.5" will clear with no issue. Time to find some large-diameter 4340. :)

Looking at my drawings I think a 1.5" one is about the biggest you can fit without touching anything. Thats measuring from the center of the hole. If you trim around where the welds are you can fit a much bigger one. The center of the hole is roughly 1" from the edge of the top mount, so 2" diameter would be the biggest possible I think since my mount sits inside the factory hoop.

So the answer I think you are looking for is somewhere between 1.25" and 2" diameter.

Sorry guys, been crazy bust the last week. Got my camber kit friday, havent had time to install it yet though. Im over 500 miles now on this conversion and no problems at all from the new parts

Still thinking about trying out some 20's to see if they make a huge difference. But I LOVE my 4's

Been talking to andrew a little about building these HD washers to hopefully be able to go stud top and get real low... time will tell

Not sure they would make Huge difference, I put my 20's back on going from 17's and really isnt that noticeable, little harsher now, but not much and also GM ss wheels are Heavy.

Going for my alignment tuesday hopefully.

yea idk whats gonna happen honestly. if this stud top pans out, im probably gonna get new (smaller) tires and just get as low as i possibly can on the 4's. i know it wont be the best ride, but it will look sick AF :crazy:

Smaller Tires ????? Your crazy man. its going to ride like crap if you go smaller and nothing will fix that. lol.

I guess i cant say much though b/c if i could get some 4's i would stuff them under mine. lol. I would really like some dub ballers in some 24's.

Hows it riding so far though? Still bumpy? Or getting better. Try playing with the shocks some more front and rear. I finally got a medium setting i have had for a week now. lol.

I'm not sure everyone knows what we're up to, so I figure I'd post my plans here...

I'm using the approach that 'iregret' from performancetrucks.net used in his 'Charlie Murphy' build thread. Just like he did, my plans are to make polyurethane bushings and larger washers for the bottom side of the top stud mounts. Where my plans differ is that I'm going to use slightly beefier dimensions for the polyurethane bushing. The lower bushing will be using the same polyurethane that he used except the diameter will be somewhere between 2.25" and 2.5". The 4340 washers will be 2.5" in diameter and will be a thickness of 0.25". The goal is that this will be additional material to hold the weight better when used with stud-top mounting.

I got my polyurethane in yesterday and I'm picking up the 4340 today. I had to buy some improved tooling for my lathe so that I can properly machine this larger 3" diameter polyurethane...it's in the process of being shipped to me so I plan on beginning machining this weekend.

I will have enough material for a set of prototypes for 04blackout and myself for stock upper shock mounts. If things go as planned I can make more.

Once the first prototypes are done I may make bushings to go with Atomic's upper mounts too. The dimensions of Atomic's upper mounts are different from stock upper shock mounts so I'd have to make a different sized batch. If anyone is interested shoot me a pm.

My upper brackets fit inside the factory hoop, which is why they are smaller.

There's a lot of people active on this thread so you'll need to be a little more specific whose specs you're looking for. :) I've not done the coilover conversion yet because I'm waiting for more buyers to get in on Atomic's group buy. In case it helps, here are my specs right now:

*) Tony's 6" rear drop springs (THEY ARE TEH AWESOME!!!)
*) rear QA1 adjustable shocks
*) 2" drop keys
*) mcgaughy's 2" lowering spindles
*) camber kit

That's a good question. The mod of this thread (04blackout) was at least running the djm 3/5 kit. I know that he swapped from the djm 3" arms to stock arms just to be sure that Atomic's mounts would work properly and so he wouldn't have to strengthen the djm arms. He may have been running lowering keys too but I'm not 100% sure. I'd say either shoot him a PM or let him chime in here. :)

Hey man, 04blackout ditched his djm arms to go to coilover. He didn't like the ride on the djm. Don't quote me but I think after talking he decided his low profile 24's were causing rough ride....but he did switch he would be the one to talk to.

Yeah the djm arms with belltech sp shocks ive never had complaints at all but other shocks yeah people were not happy. Ill shoot him a pm thanks

Yeah, blackout got rid of the a-arms b/c of having to stiffen them up some how to accommodate for the strength needed for the coil overs. Also, which i may be wrong, I think he got rid of them b/c he figured out they lowered the tahoe b/c of the index of keys on the arms not b/c the arms actually lowered the truck by themselves. (again, cant remember exactly & may be in this thread)

The rough ride has not been nailed down as to the 24's, but I suspect it is highly the reason why from experience on stock suspension.

I think shawn - yukonxl, may be speaking of adding the coil overs themselves, not the brackets. Either way, if this lifts off, i think you may have to reconsider that. lol

ive had good results with the djm 3 inch a arms and the qa1 double adjutables in front also for a long time just people dont want to spend the $$. ATOMIC thought of this design and I would never copy someone else's ideas and undercut. I've never been like that never will be like that.
