Our local Lubbock Police Department and the Lubbock County Sheriff's Department are both transitioning over to the Chevy Tahoe as their primary police vehicle.

The Lubbock Police Department recently purchased 63 Chevy Tahoes to start their switchover. The black and white vehicles are a throwback colorwise to decades past, but the color scheme looks sharp and intimidating on the Tahoes as they cruise the streets.

Here's a newspaper link: http://lubbockonline.com/local-news/2011-07-15/lpd-starts-transition-tahoe-new-police-vehicle . An interesting statistic in the article is the police department expects to get miles per gallon figures much more in line with what I get in my 2010 Tahoe, rather than the EPA estimates, which means they'll spend a lot of time filling up.

We've been using Tahoes in Hoover for as long as I have been here and longer. A lot of them still rock the NBS's, but a lot have the NNBS too.

I have seen many Baltimore County Tahoes and Suburbans. The last time I looked Maryland State Police was still using all Fords as marked vehicles.

I would like to purchase a Tahoe SSV. Does anyone have any dealers that know how to order one? All my dealers around here say they cant do it. Its basicly the same at the Police Tahoe but in 4WD and not pursuit rated.

Thanks

I have had my 07 ssv tahoe cruiser for the last 2 years. It is at 90k now and I am hoping to have a pursuit rated 2wd next. Both the 4wd and 2wd are great as police vehs. I have room for all of my duty gear as well as my CSI equipment, bike equipment, and I still have a cage for transporting lock ups. Also there is way more room up front than a crown vic, impala, or charger. My 4wd is just as fast as a crown vic in acceleration but is speed limited to 99 mph. Top speed is the only place a Crown vic can lose me. The only place the 4wd are lacking are in the braking department. A couple of hard stops and the break fade gets scary!!!! My fuel consumption is about the same as my crown vic was before i swapped. I dont want to be back in a car based cruiser ever again. I know there is a dealer in MD that sells both the ppv and ssv tahoes, it is called criswell chevy.

Maryland State Police have been buying Tahoes and they are being used for Commercial Vehicle Enforcement on the interstates (drive out on 70 youll see them).

There is talks to make Tahoe their main vehicle now that the Crown Vics are not being made anymore.

The MTA Police also have a few Tahoes.

Navo,

Only police and government agencies can purchase PPV or SSV's new. If you are not one of these, you can buy them used at various auctions or occasional dealers. I bought mine used with only 23k miles and in perfect shape. Supposedly was used as a municiple vehicle and not as a cop vehicle. It didn't have any previous cop lights or electronics installed. Inside and out was mint condition.

I had run across any yet. I worked with the Commercial Vehicle enforcement guys in PG county, they were all in Expeditions and Exploders. That was a couple years ago. Glad to see they are switching over!

I have seen a couple of SSV Tahoes used by our local power comapny -Dominion Power. There is nothing special about the SSV Tahoe. Its a basic LS with rubber floors, no roof rack, and no onstar. It really amazes me that I cannot order or find one of these....

And just for the fun of it, a Maryland State Police Tahoe for Need For Speed!

my local PD just bought a tahoe for their shift supervisor truck. Got a tour of it the other day, in the cargo area they have a locking, slide out gun case with 4 AR-15's and 4 Shotguns... very nice toy.
