I have a setup of 3 10" L7's that were pretty old. Finally two of them took a dump. So I had been going round and round on replacing all three. The cheapest I found was $507. Well I was about to order a set this week when I came across a setup already ready to go less than 2 months old. It will be 3 12" JL Audio W3V3's for $300 bucks! I think they should sound pretty clean and still hit pretty good what do you guys think?

are they already in a box? Or you adding them your exsisting box?

I fear not of used electronics, like amps, they either work or they don't. Problem buying used subs, you have no idea whow they were played, or condition of the coils and soft parts.

New woofers for $207 more, warranty and no change on box.

i buy used subs when they are less than 33% of current retail.. thats my personal rule of thumb.. think about it this way.. wholesale on those subs new.. is about the same as you are paying used.. so in SOMEONES eyes.. youre still paying NEW prices.. know what i mean?

But money is all relative anyway.. and so are fair prices... so if 300$ is a cool deal to you.. scoop them..

CarAudioBuy has them for $129 new... just sayin.. and i think my cost is like $79

and boxes? **** a box.. i never let a box change the deal unless its a box i really want.. like something built specifically for a car i happen to already own..

$50 a sub and $50 for the box.. imo.. is about the best id offer him

JL subs are pretty bullet proof. I would do it. I LOVE JL stuff. I have purchased used w3's on eBay before and have never had any issues. The used amps I bought were a different story>

never include shipping in retail though.. $129 is $129 ... that is the value of the speaker.. what UPS gets doesnt make them worth more.. know what i mean?

$200 for that setup is fair.. imo.. $250 if i was hard up for set of subs.. plus..

75% of speakers sold now a days have a warranty on them.. the rest are used.. lol

Tell him youll give him $200 and he can keep his box.. then after bullshitting a minute and looking for screw drivers hell offer you the box for free or ask for another $50 .. tell him $25 and go home happy:)

that was a good laugh for the day. jl subs are far from bullet proof. they're hardly baby proof.

They ended up being 8 ohm so I need to stick with three 4 ohms so I flipped them and made a few extra bucks on them. So now its back to the L7's....lol it never ends!

what kinda amp do you have?
3 8ohm W3V3 can be wired down to 2.66 Ohms.. ofcourse there's gonna be an impedance rise though...

while a box to some may not mean anything, putting brand new subs in a ported box, made for them may be cheaper than buying subs, and having to build or pay for a new custom box, for the new subs.

All i was saying is.....

going into a sale.. with a dude who is wanting to get rid of his setup.. and letting him know his custom box doesnt mean shit to you because its not "custom" to you .. its "pre fab" ... doesnt mean you dont want it.. just means that youre going to negotiated price under the premise that you really dont give a shit about the box his subs are in any more than the box his shoes came in.. and you expect his price (especially on the box) to reflect you "the buyer" not him

and all I was saying, if the box didn't mean the OP fittings, depth, width, etc, he would need to add the cost of building abox for his truck, so that is added costing, over buying new woofers, that are made for his box he currrently has. Not saying you were wrong, just adding that into the possible equation.

to anyone reading, it was just points of consideration, it sometimes can add up more than just a woofer swap.

I did have it wired down to the 2.66 but in my opinion my 3 L7 10" still sounded way better. They were 4ohm and I am running the oldschool Kicker ZR1000 which has been a beast and never failed. So I am going back to a matching setup like I had 3 new 10" L7's the hell with it. I was just seeing what else was out there before I bought new subs...

I understand both views and I am going back with the L7's because I can keep my third row setup and I know how it sounds. I may even do L5's this time and just make sure my gain is right so I won't damage the the L5's.

and i appreciate you clearing that up for folks.. i wasnt attacking the problem from a technical standpoint but from a sales standpoint.. and i could see how someone might think i was saying the box was negligible..

i definitely wasnt.. i was just saying when buying a used setup.. you should try and convince the seller the box is negligible.. since it was "custom" to him .. but to you its just a used pre fab box sitting in the back of someones truck..

but in TECH terms.. you are 100% correct.. and if they call your bluff.. and they dont wanna budge on the price.. sometimes you might just have to pay the bill if it means not having to pay to have the same box made all over again for twice as much.

honestly, L7's are much better than W3's... W6's are a little more comparable, but cant take a beating the way the L7's can and by no means am i a huge kicker fan but L7's do what they need to do...L7 15's with 1200rms each sound AWESOME!!!
