Bigger y-pipe and exhaust

Hey everyone, ive been recently looking into redoing my exhaust on my 97 2 door since its current exhaust is garbage. i ould like to have 2.5 inch pipes from the y-pipe back with high flow cats and some kinda loud mufflers (most likely thrush welded till i can afford magnaflows) my problem is i cant seem to find an after market y-pipe. since the factory one is so small, i want to upgrade to 2.5 inch. and has anyone here made a dual exhaust for a 2 door? i wanna do true dual from the y pipe. my friend has a pipe bender if needed. just looking for input, thanks.

magnaflow has a complete cat assembly that bolts to manifolds. is mandrel bent 2.5 front to back. and the factory is 2.5 from mani to muffler then single 3" out

id imagine thats pretty expensive. the exhaust on it now its a rotted out flowmo 70 and 2 inch dual tail pipes

does that come with high flow cats? or just oem style? and what about x pipes? does anyone run them?

dude it is everything in the photo the cross over pipes, hi flow cats and rear flange. several use the new cat assembly as the need to get new converters arises. and we dont cross pipe them at all. not practical here anyway.

Call pacesetter, get some longtubes and their crossover pipe, its BOLT in, then hit any manufacture you want for a bolt in 3" cat back.
Buy a high flow cat of your choosing thats correct diameter for the Y pipe and bolt the stuff in...
It will put you in basic form, headers, oversized Y pipe, to a single 3" catback, Cheap and very effective for a stock or even mild performance engine.
This isnt rocket science.

You will come out with a complete new exhaust front to rear, gain a large amount of power and sound.
If you get part numbers for these 4 parts and shop around you will come in WELL under 1k.

If you try and do some trickery with a Xpipe it will need to be custom, as the x pipe must be equal distance from both manifold or collector flanges to see its true gains.
So go with Simple and efficient.

okay i didnt see anything about what kinda cats that came with. ive looked into catback systems but havent found much that i liked and theyre kinda pricey. is duals all the way back a bad idea? im just trying to find out whats best so i dont spend a bunch of money and end up unhappy since im on a tight budget.

as you see in the picture on the converters. you can see the flange on the back of it with piping to the muffler. you can cut it there and split the sides on the left and right hand side of gas tank easily. you can not however reposition the cats or split them farther apart. dual out as i described it are a common mods for 2dr. units.

flowmaster has a kit 17165 that sell for about $370. same as 4dr for sound and power but with a short front pipe because the shorter body. it is a cat back with a right side ext. it is supposed to be for 2dr only and while it is not on flowmasters application guide it does exist. http://www.jegs.com/i/Flowmaster/389/17165/10002/-1

i think im gunna end up buying the magnaflow y-pipe/cat assembly and then buy all 2.5 pipes and some loud mufflers. my friend said hed bend all the pipe for me

If your friend is bending all the pipe for you just have him bend you the new y pipe.

Why not just get a muffler that has dual 2.5 inlets and 2.5 outlets and have a muffler shop install and bend all the piping from the muffler back? If you are trying to save some cash? That will act as your X of H Pipe and change out the O2 sensors while you are there. You're probably looking around 250 for the cheaper route, and If you go Sunlit's route, 400 and a couple of hours of install time. Both will have similiar results just Sunlits route is better but 100 bucks for or so.

does a dual in dual out muffler sound any different than 2 mufflers? not to sound like a douche but im a kid and want my tahoe to be pretty loud

Yes they sound different.

Only douches want loud Tahoes so you are in what one would call a "catch 22" here kid ...

well change of plans! my friend pretty much gave me a set of ****** longtube headers yesterday... is there special y pipes for longtubes?
