looks like Apple is doing a "better" update with Apple maps and CarPlay with iOS 10 - http://www.theverge.com/2016/6/13/11919996/apple-carplay-update-siri-maps-features-wwdc-2016

I wish they would allow Waze or Google Maps without doing the hack. Also hoping the new iPhone charges on the mat but still need to be plugged in for CarPlay :/

iPhone peeps, would you rather use the built in navi or CarPlay?

CarPlay is virtually useless since you can't access your music while driving. It's a car. It drives. If I wanted to listen to music while sitting around I'd stay inside.

Anyway. I usually use the built in nav since it puts up the next direction on the heads up display which I like.

Yea, it's kinda dumb when you have the map on the screen and they try to do something with your phone and it goes back to the home page. As for music, I had an old iPod with 7k in songs sitting in a drawer collecting dust but it became useful again in the new truck.

How so? Does CarPlay allow you to choose all of your music from an iPod when car is in gear?

No, I control it through the headunit. It's MOSTLY smooth but there is some lag when initially playing. It's way better controlling it through the headunit also my screen on iPod is cracked so you can't see everything clearly. I just leave the iPod behind the screen.

Sorry, the iPod is not connected via CarPlay, it's reading it via the USB and it's called media on the headunit. It's a super old iPod but I guess it would be similar to plugging in a usb stick with music on it.

But yes, it gear, I can scroll through what I want to listen to. It's neatly separated by artist, album, etc. I also get the album art on the headunit.

I definitely noticed an improvement with CarPlay since I installed iOS 10. Maps have been updated with more info. You can set it to avoid tolls. It even tells you were you parked when you turn the truck off.

Wait, with CarPlay in drive you can't scroll and pick different songs?
You can scroll through some of your music, recently added, Apple Music and playlists. You can pick whatever you want by voice. Just say "play songs by JayZ" or if you have a summer playlist say "play my summer play list"
