wondering if anyone else has been in the same situation I'm in - we picked up our '07 Z71 a few months ago to replace my '93 Jeep Cherokee, which we've had for 12 years - nothing wrong w/ the Jeep besides major major rust (Iowa winters).

...so, my problem is I can't pull the trigger & sell the Cherokee - my thinking is that to save wear & tear on the Tahoe drive the Cherokee until it dies -it's not worth hardly anything now (would be happy to take $1000 for it now, & probably get $500 for it scrap) - if I could drive it at least this winter it would be 1 less Iowa winter on the Tahoe.

Anyway, sorry to ramble, but if anyone has any advice I'd really appreciate it - it's been a "conversation topic" in our house for awhile now :-/

I have an old Lumina I have had for like 7 years. I drive it work mainly which keeps miles off the Yukon, gets about 3 times the gas mileage (30 mile commute daily), and I do have to worry about the guys at work door dinging it. I am in Iowa also but still drive my Yukon during the winter.

As long as the insurance isn't too much keep it until it starts costing you money to keep it alive.

My 4 banger with 206k on it. Really helps keep my Hoe under 100k.

I say keep it til it start nickle and diming you then scrap it. At this point it's almost like a free ride (as long as it stays running good) because insurance is probably close to nothing, property tax is close to nothing so I'd say keep it unless you just need the space in the driveway.

My "beater" is my GP since that is what we normally take when we're just bumming around town but the wife still drives the Burb daily but just don't put many miles on it at all (< 6000 miles/yr).

I have a 95 Grand Marquis that I've had for 15 years. Refuses to give me an excuse to get rid of it. Costs almost nothing to drive. I leave it outside and drive it around town. Absorbs all the dings and other insults that my Vette (since sold) or Denali would have gotten.

Had my Vette for 6 years, looked almost brand new when I sold it. Denali is a year old and looks brand new.

Isn't it funny some of the jalopies some of us drive?? There are some extremely nice rides on this forum and here you hear about all these old land yachts or rice burners being driven around while the Hoes and Kons stay parked in the garage

I may end up landing my grandma's 91 caprice (with 44k miles on it) to beat around in before long.....

I have a '98 VW Diesel Beetle. 45-50 Mpg. Use it for daily 100 mile round trip to work. Even with the Beetle, I still put on almost 20k a year on the burb.

My beater is a 91 Buick Skylark Roadster with a cloth top and blue velor interior. She aint pretty, burns a little oil. But she gets me from point A to B and back again. 65 miles round trip a day. I paid $1k 2 years ago for it with only 25k miles on it. It sat for years and I get almost 30MPG out of her....

The Yukon is sleeping at home.
