Hi guys, have a question about catalytic converters. Shops here in dallas want anywhere from 480-600 to replace my stock cats with just your basic universal catalytic converters in my 99 tahoe. I have hunted and found some full replacements from the heads to the place where it connects to the rest of the exhaust anywhere from 200-350$. Should I just have it done and save myself the headache or buy these to save some coin and figure it out myself. I'm pretty handy and have a garage full of tools. Which way would yall go? Thanks!

On a rig that old you will likely have to deal with some broken bolts during disassembly. Are you set up to handle that as well? Is there a shop you trust that will install your parts?

I had a new motor put in about 2k miles ago and also a trans rebuild at the same time. Looks like they had put new bolts on them. That's about it.

You could get very lucky then. If you have the know how and the tools, do it.

I bought the MagnaFlow Y pipe and cats for my 1998 2 door. They have been working great since installed back in 2012. Over the years, I have stripped the threads on one stud of the exhaust manifold/collector. I ended up taking the manifold off and bringing it to an exhaust shop to change out that stud. But the MagnaFlow cats have been great.

I just ordered a magnaflow. I decided to go ahead and try it myself. Why the hell not. Thanks for the suggestion!

I went exactly with this setup instead. The guy at Summit Racing has the same truck (99 2 dr 4x4) and he said this has worked out very well for him. easy to install and came with everything I needed to replace so I wouldn't have any surprises. Did it on ramps in the driveway in a hour and a half, with the brother-in-law and a few beers of course. everything sounds and works great now. Thanks guys!

Link for anyone who sees this and has summit near them. Plus they gave me the 25$ off for black friday.

tell them 65 each cat 70$ is a scam for both oem one are worth a ton of money esp truck ones I sold my last GM bread loaf for 120$ on ebay for one that was for a car one though but truck ones are worth more $$ as they are bigger
this is the correct one for the tahoe 5.7L??

or Sell it on ebay for scrap
you will get 200 to 350$ for both...

should cost 40$ to weld each one in

I Would go with the Walker slightly more money

at 148$ ea

I had good luck with that brand.

This model number is the correct one.

Just installed these on my 1999 6 Door 4 X 4 in the parking lot of an Extended Stay America with no ramps. Got lucky Amazon sent me a new one after the set I had installed developed a crack around the pipe just past the forward O2 sensor boss. 15 mm deep well socket for the header nuts, 14 mm for the collector collector bolts, 5/8 line wrench crowsfoot for the O2 sensors. Trust me it is a lot easier to do with the front wheels up on ramps but took me just a few hours. Working great now. Best advise I can offer get some Nickel base high temp antisieze compound, that stuff is good up to 2400 degrees F, you will appreciate it in the future when you have to due in repairs. Almost forgot you'll also need a 13 mm for the O2 sensor connector cover on the left frame. Let us know if Magna-Flow fixed the O2 sensor location on the aft O2 sensor on the left pipe. The last set I installed I had to notch the frame to prevent the sensor from rubbing the frame. Lost a brand new sensor to that booboo.

I did not go with magnaflow.. I ended up buying a full bolt in set from flowmaster. looks and sounds great. All the bends were perfect. Did it in my driveway on ramps in a hour and a half. I should of took pictures but.. I found multiple cracks in the stock pipes.. so If your running stock.. Id say go ahead and buy the full bolt up set so you have that piece of mind.
