98 Tahoe 2DR 4x4

Just bought her about a month ago. Had a 91 2dr S10 blazer 2wd for a couple years that served me extremely well and decided it was time to go bigger.

1998 2DR Tahoe 4wd
161k on body, 6k on rebuilt crate, about 40k on rebuilt tranny
majority of mechanicals including all 4wd components, front and rear, suspension, brakes etc. either rebuilt or replaced within the last couple years.

Only thing i strongly dislike about it is the burgundy interior
not too fond of the "spoiler" in the back either but that'll be taken care of in the summer when i can be bothered to fill the 8 holes the idiot who put it on there drilled in the roof

Have some things I'm planning to do, most will be put off until summer when funds are higher and snow isn't in the forecast. Although within the next couple weeks i'll have some soft 8's so i can get rid of these nasty semi gloss spray painted stock black alloys.

Oh man, that's CLEAN. I like it. Defiantly ditch the rear spoiler thing though. Nothing wrong with the Burgundy interior. I like mine, it's different. I'll be ditching it later on for black and white though.

Defiantly looks great though.

thanks Matt, I guess its more the amount of burgundy more than the actual color that i hate, I plan on finding some leather seats down the road and swapping these ones out.

Good luck finding leather 2 door seats that slide forward. I've been looking for years and have gone through 2 trucks and still haven't found any that are a ridiculous price.
Truck looks real clean btw.

Pulled the racks and the abs spoiler, just for s&g I painted the top and bottom parts of the grill and left the center chrome, cranked the keys, setup my dual Optima yellowtop battery setup, started ripping out the interior in the rear to address leaking issues and to start re-wrapping and dye-ing plastic trim pieces, bought a set of 18" moto metal 961's with red inserts to match the truck and mocked one up to make sure the fitment is alright, tomorrow i'll be going to get some tires, Nitto terra or trail grapplers.

I would paint the inner fender wells while your mocking up the wheels.

Thanks man. I would've but it was a bit windy today to be spraying, I want to clean up the calipers and hit them with some semi gloss black so if the weather permits i'll be doing that bright and early tomorrow. Thanks for the input. Ill put some pictures up with the tires mounted on the new wheels this weekend.

Well I did it with the idea that I'm going to be getting a new grill within the next few months so I didn't focus too much on durability, was more interested in seeing what it would look like. Being as its ABS plastic with chrome finish and the fact that its on the front of a truck sitting at a 90 degree angle, its likely to get hit with a lot of sand and rocks. Paint doesn't like to stick to ABS chrome to begin with and add in the factor i stated in the last sentence, it'll be pretty hard to keep it looking perfect forever. But that being said if you want to have a go at it I'd recommend the following surface prep steps:
Take grille off the truck
Tape off the area that you would like to keep chrome( I suggest a very thin tape to obtain the curves on the vertical bars of the grille, then use a thick tape to fill in the rest of it)
Sand with a 400 grit sandpaper
Clean well with mineral spirits(paint thinner)
Wash with soap and water
Rinse with just water
Make sure the surface is completely dry
Spray an adhesion promoter primer such as http://www.amazon.com/VHT-SP440-Adhesion-Promotor-Clear/dp/B003BGSJGC
Then spray a few coats of white
Spray a few coats of clear
Wait a few hours then carefully pull off masking tape
Then let it dry for a couple days to make sure you don't mess up your beautiful paint job Mount it back on the truck

Tires and wheels mounted, not too many pictures, more tomorrow when its all washed up.
Tires are Nitto Trail Grapplers LT285/65/18 (33" x 12")
Wheels are Moto Metal 961 18" x 9" with +18 mm offset(5.7" backspacing)
No rub no trim, 1" torsion crank in the front at the moment, no lift in the back yet, will be putting 2" blocks in back and cranking torsion keys to make it level when i swap out my rear with the new to me rear end I picked up for 250 out of a salvage truck, and then a much needed alignment.
Tow mirrors will be next on the list after the above mentioned, then dual flowmasters.
Still deciding on rollpan or streamlined custom rear bumper.

I think black bumpers would be sick. Rollpans are getting old IMO, i have one and regretting it lol
