It must just be something that happens over time. The first ones are my 98 Z71, the rubber is pulled through and aligned with a notch. The last one is my Tahoe, looks like it has pushed out kind of like yours.

It may be easier to push it back into place from the engine side.

Success! That's absolutely it. I wasn't able to push it back where it belongs yet, but I stuffed a rag around the opening and it eliminates the air blow. Before it felt just like the air from the floor vents, only warm. Stuck my hand down there and nothing with the rag there. I could still feel a little heat entering but not like before. They must have done it when they dropped the dash to install the evaporator core. I complained over and over about it, but they said everything is as is should be. Glad to have it figured out finally.

Good deal, glad you found the problem. I’m going to look at mine this evening and see if I can shove it back into place. I need as much cool air to stay in as possible.

So I climbed up on the engine and reinstalled the rubber boot into the firewall. It was a bit of a pain and would probably be easier with the brake booster removed, but I was able to get it done. I didn't get it to completely seat from the engine. I had to climb in the floorboard and push on the rubber to make it seat 100%. But that did the job.

Now I just have to figure out what the strange whistling sound I have is. It also didn't start until the dash was dropped. I thought it was feedback in my speakers because the idiots tightened the dash back down on the antenna wire. But I put a new antenna wire in and it's still there. Always something with older vehicles. But glad my ac can now keep my cab cooled while driving around.

Pushing mine back into place has actually helped keep it cool inside. I guess even a small gap can make a difference. Someone on gmt400.com had the same problem, so it must be fairly common.

Is it possible that warm air is entering around the steering column enters through the firewall? It definitely feels like that's the area the warm air is coming from. When I put my hand down there, the whole area was warm to the touch.

This is where my hot air was entering the truck for me. The boot that goes around the steering column into the firewall had come loose...... easy fix and done

It's just sad it really took me forever to figure it out. Just never really thought about checking it and had cruised the forums for some kind of solution to no avail. Glad it was an easy fix after all.

The feedback noise is another issue. I have two 12s and 2 amps in the truck, and everyone goes straight to that. Was told maybe the cluster as well. Took both the radio and cluster completely out last weekend and the noise persists. It was a whole hell of a lot louder though with the dash that empty. This weekend I'm gonna pull the belt off and check all my pulleys. Maybe it's some kind of bearing noise traveling from the engine bay. Running out of ideas of what to check.

Hey glad to help. I know it drove me crazy until I figured it out. I eventually came to the conclusion one night after work of feeling everything in the floorboards for what was hot. The ac was blowing full blast on the way home so nothing should have been warm. But the firewall was right there at the boot, and I felt like a genius [emoji3447] because I'd finally figured it out. [emoji16][emoji95]
