Well, the 3.0 has certainly reported a few problems for sure. But that seems to be dying out on the forums now. You don't hear of people reporting daily or even weekly of any more of these thrust bearing failures. To be sure, there are some out there, maybe even quite a few. But I think proportionally it's way less and maybe way way less than this 6.2 debacle. The very vast majority of the failures are within 5000 miles. So, the engine never really was good right out of the gate. So, if you're past that point it's a pretty known fact that you are in pretty good shape. Our LZ0 has ran like a top. Doesn't exhibit any of the symptoms of the failure. And I wouldn't have any qualms of driving it 2000 miles tomorrow.
I didn’t know that about the 6.2’s mostly failing within 5,000miles (unless you meant the CCV?). So that should actually be reassuring then if you have one that’s got a few miles on it. Not saying you’re in the clear, but maybe? Lol

No, I meant the LZ 0 failing within 5000 miles. Usually if they make it that far. 99% of them are good.. 6.2's can go at any time.

How did you determine 99% of the LZ0 diesel engines are good if they reach 5,000 miles?

There is a guy that is charting it on duramaxnews.com. Plus, on multiple forums I am on.... the very vast majority of failures are within 5000 miles at least that I have read. I've only seen one at 10,000 and one at 14,000. And there's many, many, many of these engines out there. I believe it to be a serious problem. But I don't expect it to be a widespread problem. If you notice even on this 3.0 Duramax forum, it's been pretty quiet lately about specific failures, including personal ones of members on here.... If anyone has any better information than I do, I am all ears.....

It does seem like the Coolant Control Valave noise has settled too but jeepers it was active for a while. Hopefully this is the case for the 6.2 even though engine failure is a much more catastrophic event!

My God, what have you done?) I'm not going anywhere on 6.2, it's scary to drive far. Don't you have a well-developed tow truck service? T1 generation cars are great for the trails. You just need to keep an eye on 6.2, and don't get on your nerves. Right now I'm looking at my 2022 Yukon with a 6.2 engine, which I replaced after running 75,000 miles. And I understand that I also want a 6.2 track car, because no diesel engine will give you a thrill from driving on the highway by 6.2. It's just that 6.2 will need to be disassembled and reassembled immediately upon purchase, bringing it back to normal.

So today was one of those days. We took a family road trip about four hours from home, and when I tried to park my Suburban in a parking garage, it wouldn’t move in reverse—it felt like it was stuck in neutral. With a little help, we managed to get the truck out of the parking space and were able to drive it about five miles to a dealership. During the last half mile, I started to feel it slipping while driving and barely made it there.

As soon as I pulled into the service department, the check engine light came on, which now shows in the MyChevrolet app as “Service Engine Transmission.” The dealership was very helpful and set me up with a free Enterprise rental so I could get home, but now it’s a waiting game.

My home dealership—the one that performed the engine swap—is going to contact GM in the morning to see if they’ll cover the cost of towing the vehicle back to them. In the meantime, I plan to call GM myself and open a case regarding these ongoing issues, including exploring whether a buyback is an option.

Today’s incident was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I’ve completely lost confidence in this truck, and I want out.

Sorry to read this man, but I totally get it. You have to be able to trust your vehicle, otherwise everyday becomes an additional stress point when you leave your driveway.

Got a call from my dealership today. My new replacements engine arrived. Two weeks! I am amazed. He said they will need a couple of weeks and will call. Much sooner than I expected.

Picked my Tahoe up yesterday. New engine. Time will tell. I’m told this engine has updated bearings. Hope that’s true.
