Have a 2022 Suburban RST with the 6.2 L87 engine with 45k miles on it. Engine recall passed and dealer switched to 0w40. I’ve been complaining of oil consumption so they had me drive 2k miles and come back I lost 1 qt which they said was within spec. They changed oil again and told me to come back in 1k miles. I came back after 1k miles and was told only 4.5 quarts drained so I lost 3.5. Today I get a call and they told me GM approved a full engine replacement under warranty. Only problem is the 6.2 engine is very limited so no timetable. They did give me a 2026 traverse as a loaner to keep until my suburban is fixed. Just wanted to share.

This whole 6.2 gas and now 3.0 diesel thing is getting ridiculous. I didn’t spend 90k for a loaner.

Did your Dealer have any thoughts about where 3.5 quarts of oil went in only 1k miles? Did you notice anything like smoke from the exhaust or oil dripping in the driveway? That is a lot of oil to just "lose".

No smoke or any oil spots in the driveway. They didn’t give me any details on what the cause could be. Just that they will open a case with GM to see what they recommend to which it was decided to replace the engine.

FYI, I'm told they're getting the engines within 2 weeks now. Earlier this year or last year you could wait for a few months.

Really sorry to read this, Man.

2007 and 2008 were the last years that the NON-AFM 6.2L motors were made. Glad that I have a 2007 6.2L truck.

1qt every 2000 miles is normal?! Wow.

My oldest vehicle is a 2006 f150 with 220k miles and it burns NOTHING between oil changes every 5k.

What a bandaid if they are telling people that’s normal. Just let these engines limp through until the warranty is over is their plan for sure.

Gm says 1qt/1000 miles is normal.

Engine swap is complete picked up my truck this morning. During the L87 recall when the original engine passed inspection I received a warranty update 10 years 150k miles. That coverage now transfers to the new engine from what my service advisor told me.

"from what my service advisor told me"? Get it in writing, or it didn't happen. When I talk about "get it in writing", I mean on a business letterhead official paper that is dated and signed, that states the warranty coverage and why.

Take a pic of that. Also, "active" for the other engine or the new engine? Does it say the words "new engine" or "installed engine"?
