6.0 what grade fuel

Picking up an 04 Escalade with the 6.0 V8, what is the correct grade fuel to run? Some people say 87 is fine, then others say it runs like crap, just want to run what's best for it

There is nothing on the cluster that I noticed when I test drove it, and no manual need to pick one up off EBay

I run 91 in my 2006 Denali with the 6.0. Runs alot better than it did on 87. More expensive but worth the extra expense in my opinion.

thats called the placibo effect i used to get it to along time ago till i learned what the octane rating actually meant and when i was changing duty station from ft hood to ft lewis
i got a fresh oilchange and filled it up with super unleaded and man i was gettin like 400 miles to a tank i though that was awsome and just to see if it was infact the superunleaded i ranalmost ddry then filled up with 87 and hit the road again and by goly i got the same gas mileage around 400 miles to the tank

Cadillacs use the LQ9 6.0 **. They require premium. Yes, the knock sensors will scale back the timing advance on 87 octane to a degree.
If you get a tune, Black Bear says to use 93. I can perceive a difference in performance between 91 & 93.

Thanks picked up an owners manual off EBay and that's what it says, been running 93 going to get a BB tune down the road, does anywhere in the USA sell 91? Only 87, 89 and 93 here

When I bought my 03 escalade back in November I ran a test filling up each time with different grades. I tried 93, 89 and 87. I got better mpg out of 87. I've put close to 5k miles on it running 87 with no problems.

Local I average 14.7 mpg since I added the airaid Jr and AEM dry filter. I was getting 13 mpg local and 16.7 highway. I still haven't been on any trips since the install of the airaid. Next month im planning on my 100k tune up, plugs and wires.

I have been running 87 in my LQ9 6.0L and haven't had any issues. I had it tunned and they asked what grade fuel I used. They were suprised I had no detonation or knocking. I had zero issues. Drove to Pennsylvania last Sunday doing 80 mph getting 16.5 mpg and I wants being nice to the Taho either lol. And I am rolling on 22".

No knocking or detonation with mine, im also on 22s. Once I install headers and exhaust ill be getting a tune so ill stay with 87 until then.

I think you will be fine with 87 with your tune.

I just finished experimenting a bit since I have a BB Autocal so I can change my tunes from the 87-89 octane tune to the 91+ tune. I was running the 87-89 tune for awhile, then decided to try the 91+ tune and run a couple tanks of Premium. I honestly could not tell the difference in power or mileage (I get around 12-13 combined mileage , mainly city and I drive it hard) so I just reinstalled the 87-89 octane tune and filled with regular last week. I don't see any reason to pay 30 cents more per gallon. I'm running 26's.

Most mass production engines will run normally on cheap crap gas. GMs which I deal with a ton will give a low and high octane table in the pcm. It decides a hybrid of where to run the ignition timing based on combustion. Even if you take the low table away, by copying the high table on top of it, timing is still very conservative from the factory. There is power to be had with a better timing curve and better fuel. You will feel the difference. Stock, running good fuel gets you a few more degrees of timing as it shifts between tables. That equates into power and throttle response but nothing crazy.

That may be true with a stock tune, which I also have access to , but I believe BlackBear Performance must optimize their tunes for the different octane levels. That's probably why I couldn't tell the difference, at least I assume. I did ask Justin at BB if I ran the 91+ tune with regular gas, would it cause problems. He said it would probably just suffer performance-wise. Are you saying the factory runs a dual tune or some kind of variable tune in the PCM? I don't see how that could be possible, but maybe a tune more likely based on the lowest octane.

I had a friend with a built 5.0 Mustang and Nitrous ... 500 hp and he ran it on 87 octane??? Most 4 cylinder imports .. you tune for either 87 0ctane ... no one does that or 91 (93 seems to be an East Coast thing??) But they don't do either or?? You run a high output 4, on 87 and your gonna be picking up parts off the street!

Back in the day ... I had a Merkur 2.3 liter Turbo and it would run on 87 or 91 ... Ca car. It was a lot slower on 87 but it would run fine on it ... just not as fast.

Oregon does. Most generic brand gas stations use 91 as premium and the top tiers use 92.
