2 weeks ago we bought a used 2013 Yukon Xl Denali with the 2nd and 3rd row screens. Upgraded from a 2008. When we tried to play a DVD for the kids this weekend, it played on the Nav screen, but rear screens were black. Tried using remote (fresh batteries) to turn on, but it didn’t work. Tried using the controls on the back of center console, but no luck. It’s like there is no power to the screens.

I checked the fuses for RSE and INFO and they check out fine. The buttons in the center console light up so they have power.

I pulled the radio to see if there was a loose connection and I noticed the radio had a refurbished sticker. (I think I uploaded a picture correctly.) Is there a chance someone replaced the radio and didn’t get it programmed properly? Would that cause the screens to not power up?

Anything else I should check?

Make sure the screens are set to dvd and not aux. It should be an option in the menu on the head unit.

Thanks for the suggestion.

It is definitely set to DVD as the movie plays on the navigation screen on the head unit while in park, and we hear the audio coming through the speakers.

The two rear screens are showing no signs of life and the remote control or rear console control buttons do not have any effect.

I guess I’m trying figure out if I need to just take it in to the Dealer and see if they can reprogram the head unit, if the refurbished one is even the correct one, or if I need to start chasing wires looking for a short or loose connection.

In looking at the manual for the system, it is showing some buttons for Display 1 & Display 2 which are not showing on my screen.

Interesting. So you can't get to that screen that is shown in the manual?

Nope.

So I don’t know if I don’t see them on my radio because I don’t have power to my screens or I don’t have power to my screens because the radio isn’t programmed properly.

It could also very well be a PICNIC issue (Problem In Chair, Not In Computer).

Not afraid to start chasing wires but thought I’d throw this out to the folks here before I start tearing my interior apart and crawl around with a multimeter.

I would rather risk asking a stupid question verses risking making an stupid mistake.

I believe the harness for the rear screens is located under the center console cup holder area (easily removed). Now I'm not positive, so hopefully someone who knows will chime in here

are the rear IR emitters lighting up? you should be able to see them glowing faintly red thru the smoked lens in front of the rear screens when it is set to DVD

When you had the head unit pulled out, did you notice any plugs behind it not plugged in?

What fuses did you check, just ones in fuse panel on drivers side dash or also in engine bay?

The RSE may get it's power from the Center Instrument Panel Fuse Block (Upfitter Block) if it was an add-on/dealer installed option. It's located under dash just to the left of brake pedal. This gets power from locations 37 and 52 of the engine bay fuse panel. Check those too.

It could very well be that the radio isn't programmed for ths RSE option. When doing internet search I've seen this is a possibility.
