Easy. I got the dock cable from apple store that has a set of audio/video RCA's along with a USB for charging. I hooked the audio-outs into the Audiocontrol 3.1, which splits to Front/Rear/Sub. I took the video out to a video splitter box, which splits signal out to the 2 headrest monitors. The power is picked up in a cigarette lighter in the console, using Belkin's Ipad charger.

The install will not work to my full desires until the jailbreak for OS4 is out. This will allow for better video and audio distribution options, and hopefully a bluetooth remote control.

Gotcha, that would make sense

Nice.

Question: Did you lose the ability to use the Onstar Turn by Turn Directions when you contact them or sending directions via Google Map, Mapquest, etc?

Here is the latest update. Been super busy at work and with family. hopefully i can at least finish the bezel this coming weekend. the motorization will have to wait.

Here are a few console shots as i was installing it.

You can see the insanity needed to cut up the dash here. there is no going back on this, even if i sell the truck.

Here is the bezel as it sits right now. I still need to lay down some fiberglass and filler, and sand smooth so the paint guy can shoot it.

Hmmmmm, very tricky to answer. So far, including the iPad I have spent about $6500. Doing the full install myself, and i would estimate about 4 weekends to run all wires, fab the console, install all speakers, fab dash bezel. It just all depends how far you want to go.

Will you be able to have the ipad turn on/off with the key the same way a factory radio would, or do you have to manually turn it on and off everytime?

So far I manually turn the iPad on and off, but the preamp, amps and monitors all turn on only when the key ignition is on.

I'm doing this setup in my Ford Lightning. This build looks awesome!!! Very detailed and well thought out which is what I like to see, not just thrown together

The guy who is building my setup told me that there is a way to wire it up so that it comes on/off when the ignition is on/off. Also there is a screen lock so that you can leave it horizontal even after hitting the home button.

I might have to borrow your home button access idea for mine. Looks nice clean and simple

If you are using the 30pin apple connection cable, you need to place 5volts across pins 4 (usb data out+) and pin 6(usb data out-) in addition you also MUST have to have a custom resistor load on them this will allow the ipad to charge and play at the same time, as well as turn on when the ignition does.
This diagram below was made by Ladyada who is one of the sickest electrical engineers out there she reverse engineered apples 30 pin out as well as the charging mechanism behind there products.

usb4res.png

the diagram shows resistors of 43k and 51k on pin6 which is d- and 51k and 75k on pin 4 which is d+ this corresponds to voltage of 2.8 and 2.0 which happens to be the magic number with the new generation apple product and charging.
