The brake hose issue is a well documented problem, classic car owners face this frequently. Old rubber hoses fail and as mentioned, allow fluid to flow only under pressure and then do not allow the fluid to return to the MC after you release the brakes.
The other issue is old brake fluid contaminating the valves inside the ABS system. It is a very good idea to flush the system every few years. A scan tool can activate the ABS valves to flush each one. With clean fluid they never fail. Most cars on the road have brake fluid that has never been changed and causes issues like this. I believe GM recommends new fluid every 2 or 3 years regardless of miles driven. Brake fluid absorbs moisture from the air. This builds up and the moisture in the system starts degrading parts.
