I solved the dim lighting from the puddle lens. I wasn't satisfied with the LED bulb.

It still wasn't bright enough on the ground. I am going to get a 'panel style' LED instead of the tube-bulb LED, with a frosted glass I bought....

BUT.... The silly original GM style puddle lens is a heavy/ textured finish.... That sucked...

So, I went to the salvage & found 4 lenses.

#1 - Get a medium grit sanding sponge. - Start with the heavier grit on sponge. Watch a football game and sand away. ( 20 minutes )...

# 2 - Switch to the lesser grit on the square sanding sponge. - Sand away , back-n-forth. 15 minutes.

#3 - Mount a drill on your vice with a buffer wheel. Use Rubbing compound. - 10 minutes.

#4 - A second buffing wheel, use Polishing compound. - 10 minutes.

#5 - Plastic polish for a protective finish. - 1 minute

Done. CLEAR !! ( enlarge the last photo to see clarity )

I didn't want to diminish his idea. I had remembered 05single's eagle eye deal, so I just wanted to give him another idea.
It's all good, I thought it was a good idea and yet I'm still the only one who has the eagle eyes for puddle lamps  lol

But this sanding down the lens is pretty genius. Worked out perfectly. I vote sticky!:deal:

05Single.....

Your eagle eye was next, if my experiment didn't work. .... I try improving OEM first. My clear lens / LED still won't be as bright as your mod, ( which is very cool & more effective)....

But let's see when I get a 'panel LED' if it's brighter than what I have now...

I have been considering a second light mounted on the bottom of the door panel -toward-ground, taping off the lens on the lower panel. That will light up the step & ground whenever you open the door. Hmmmm....

Still waiting on the nipple ones....

Ha...... Uh, For him or "her" :Nonono:

The eagle eye "bolt" LED could be mounted as a puddle light, by drilling a hole through the puddle light lens housing? Huh... Where do I get that lens??

I thought 05Single fabricated a plate for the LED light..... Maybe I just missed that detail.

It's a bolt style led. He put the shaft through the existing lens. Then he put them in blue under the truck. Then he put them in the cargo area. Then he used a pair as earrings. Still waiting on the nipple ones....
My nipples are too small. They have the diameter but not the length. I'm pretty pissed about it. Thanks for bringing it up again :nono:

The daylight front is LED ( works great)....Aftermarket tail light, reverse lens is clear so stock bulb very bright ( can't wait to get an LED for that )..... And, Puddle light lens polished clear, using #578 LED 'barrel bulb - frosted' / 6000k / also part called a "212-2 Type ??".....

So many versions of the 578 LED bulb online, hard to know what is actually a brighter light.... The barrel bulbs are only frosted / flat leds should be brighter?
"They describe" the LED "as whiter"..... I want BRIGHTER. Uh, CANBUS? Uh, 'error free'? Sure, but HOW ABOUT LUMINS?????

I think a 'panel style' LED 578 will be brighter for a puddle light, but which one??

I always searched 42mm festoon led bulb. Same as dome lights. Right now I have color changing ones in my dome. I never really cared to get the brightest because hopping into your truck in pitch black and having the dome lights turn into sunlight isn't what I was looking for lol. I ran blue for a long time. I have bright footwell lights and that's what's important for me

I used these. They are a bit wide, so I put them in on an angle, and they turned out exactly parallel to the ground.

They are pretty frigging bright.
