Didn't know where this question would go, and couldn't find anything. If I buy a replacement key for my truck, does it have to be programmed or are they non-chip keys?

even my 97 doesnt have a chip. you would see the chip if you had one. it would be embedded in the metal part with plastic.

Is it true that you should have the real or ginune engine key? and to use it from time yo time or the engine well not start?

I faced it with a friend his 99 Yukon didn't start until he used the orginal key after that start he can use the copy again!?

My 99 does not have a chip visable. Going to try a dup key to see if it works. Like to find a couple of new remote fobs that work though.

Do you have the stock alarm system, or is it aftermarket. I usually use Ebay; you can find brand new remotes that usually come with programming instructions for pretty cheap.
