Hi everyone, I have a problem. I bought the truck with two keys and two remotes. One of the keys was already quite worn, and it sometimes sticks when you turn it in the ignition. I had the good key copied, to have a decent one.

Then my wife lost one of the keys and the remote, and I still had a working key and remote.

Now I've misplaced that key and can't find it.

To get the truck moving at all, I reactivated the old key, which is stuck in the ignition, but with a bit of finesse, it at least works.

So now I need a new keys and new remotes.

About that I have two questions:
Can you order keys pre-cut using the chassis number, or how can you salvage such a key?

Or do you have to order a key blank? Are there different types, or are they all the same for the GMT-800?

And the second question is...

Is it possible to buy the transmitters and program a vehicle without having an old transmitter?

There are no chips in our keys, so any blank can be cut to work.

The fobs/transmitters/remotes can be added to your vehicle without requiring an original as long as the ones you get are the same frequency range as factory. I believe the frequencies change with the electrical system going class ii (2000-2002, 2003-2006).

the key can be cut from the key code, you would need to visit a gm dealer with proof of ownership.
the fob is probably easiest to replace with a dorman kit that comes with a obd plug that only works 3 times, so
be sure the battery is charged and that you follow the directions.
