So my question is about the condition of the cam bearings. This is my wife’s 17 suburban 5.3 and it’s got 150k and I had a lifter go out so I’m deleting the DOD. This doesn’t look good to me. It’s smooth to the touch but looks rough. I’m not sure if I should just send it, try and replace the bearing while it’s in the vehicle or pull the motor? Any advice?

They're all like that. My 6.2 had a similar appearance at 120K. I agree with Carlos, if it doesn't catch a fingernail, send it.

Can you catch your fingernail on those bearings? If not, send it.

I'm pretty sure you have to remove the engine to change cam bearings though.
Just barely on one little grove in the first one. I’m gunna send it.

Just one grove in that first one that I can see but when I pulled the cam out it was buttery smooth when I pulled it out. I think I’m gunna just go ahead and start reassembling.
