I run slotted rotors and ceramic pads on my Escalade. It seems silly to have 400HP+, 22inch wheels and such a low diameter rotors.

Oh well. I don't think there is any substitute for larger diameter brakes.

Are those the Raybestos PER-300 Rotors? I was going to use those, but finally bought the Wilwood Big Brake (16") TX6R Big Brake Truck Front Brake Kits for F&R.

A lot more money, but I am going to be doing a lot of mountain driving in the next couple of years so I figured what the heck.. plus I decided NOT to install a Whipple as I have all the HP an old fart needs,.,

BTW, I found a great Wilwood vendor that gives a pretty good discount if anyone is interested.

Yes it is. Bedded them this morning, going to do the fronts next weekend.

I want to upgrade my fronts but, Just can't afford to spend $2000 on the wilwoods. Unless we get a REALLY good Christmas bonus this year but, that's still a ways off. lol. I would do OEM replacements but, they just look so tiny behind these 20's. Which I don't really care for either. Really wish it had 18's on it. So I Was going to try to go to a little bigger rotor but I'm having problems finding anything other than either OEM replacement, or $2000 full replacement kits.

Baer Eradispeed +1 Rotors & Pads

15" Rotors using factory calipers, slotted & Drilled Rotors.. around $1300.00 for the front & rear including pads from Autoanything,com

I would upgrade the pads before going crazy with bigger parts. I agree, as my Escalade is a monster, but doesn't stop very well. One day, I'll play with pad compound.

I bought my wilwood fronts for 1400 used and in really good condition. Search around. Look on performancetrucks.net, ebay, craigslist, etc. Hell check junk yards. You would be surprised. I just rebuilt the calipers and new pads. Pads were 100 and new piston seals were only a few bucks i think.

I'd be interested in that information! I went with the R1 rotors and pads previously and while they felt great when new, they squeal like crazy now and also pulse like I have a rotor that is warped. I'm currently in the research phase of what I want to replace them with. I really want the Wilwood's, but like everyone has mentioned, they are spendy suckers and I'd also have to change out my winter wheel/tire combo with upgrading (they're currently 17's for winter).

With the Wilwood Big Brake Kit, you have to run a minimum of a 20" wheel..

I actually did not buy the Wilwoods but instead opted for the Baer Eradispeed +1 15" Rotors and Baer Pads which use the factory caliper. $1300 for F&R from AutoAnything.com on sale got 20% off.

I just could not justify the $3800 for the Wilwoods even though they are great brakes and I ran them on my race cars, the Baer will stop my Tahoe with the 6.2L just fine and I can stay with the factory 20" wheels..& save $2500.00 to spend on other stuff.

Nope straight from the factory.. they only made them for a couple of years in the Tahoe & Yukon.. in 2009 they made 620 and I found this one with 30K on the odometer..

Plus it is the L9H engine, which does not have the cylinder deactivation. It also has the 2 speed transfer case like the Z71 4WD with 3.42:1 gears.. 18 MPG at 75 MPH :D

See mods in my sig.. runs REAL good.. will not do anymore mods as I just wanted to have a "Grand Touring SUV" for extended travel. Don't tow or use it for anything but weekends right now but getting ready to take a 3-4 month trip next year..

Thanks @thirdcoast for the info! I do have the 20's (stock) as my summer time tires and had planned on turning them into my winters if I upgraded to the Wilwoods. Unfortunately I needed to buy tires sooner than I expected and was not ready to upgrade my wheels at the same time. So... I'm stuck running my stocks for at least another year before I get a new setup... In the meantime, if worse comes to worse, I just run them with the new tires in the winter and not use my Blizzaks on the 17" stealies... (which I'll probably be selling at some point)

I can't wait to see pics of your extended road trip! You'll have to have a thread just to keep up with the travels and the Tahoe in different places!

Ordered some rotors and pads from AutoAnything on friday. Should be here in a few days.

Been a Ford guy for a long time. I know my fathers 95 Chevy had allen head bolts holding on the calipers. Is that still common? Or have they changed?

We will be coming up your way on "The Journey" in the 09 Tahoe LTZ..

I want to drive from Victoria, Texas in March to the ANRA Spring Nationals - Famoso Raceway - Bakersfield, CA. Then up the Pacific Coast Highway, then take the car ferry to Alaska for a month or so continuing through Denali then back through Canada to see some friends in Calgary.

After that, a leisurely trip through the mountains to Santa Fe and drink many margaritas at Maria's, then head back to Texas..

Pretty much a bucket list trip to places I have not seen.. been around the world both directions and lived many places in the US (Army Brat & Army Officer) but never been north of San Francisco in CA..

Ought to be a good trip..and a whole lot different than the middle coast of Texas.. hot & humid all summer here..

FYI, I ended up resurfacing stock rotors and changing to a Wagner ceramic pad... That helped a lot... Definitely made a difference...

I have 17" wheels so I can have a good off-road tire.... So bigger brakes is not much of an option...
