Recommendation Please:

I have owned since new, a 2019 Tahoe 5.3L Midnight Edition now with 38k Miles. It’s not subject to the Engine recalls and runs perfectly. All Service performed by Main Local Chevy Dealer Oil Changes done approx every 6k mile, transmission Fluid change done around 33K miles.

Chevy will only put in 0w20 engine oil and ACDelco filter. I just added a full extended warranty for the next 4 years 48k miles (which we will never hit in 4 years).

With all the Chevy V8 engine issues post 2019 I’m still concerned…

Please recommend:

1. What oil you would use going forward
2. What oil filter you recommend
3. Advise is putting in non 0w20 and/or a non ACDelco filter whether it would potentially impact my extended warranty coverage if something happened.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome, unfortunately these type post usually produce numerous different answers when asked in the past. In my opinion it just confuses the person who is asking the questions as everyone has their own opinion about the best recommended oil, viscosity and filter. My advice is to use a good quality oil and filter and change both in a timely manner. You can look at some of the posts in reference to the 6.2 engine failures, PICO test, and oil recommendation moving forward. There are a lot of us in the same boat with the 6.2 engine. Good luck with your decision.

Wix WL10255, AC Delco PF63, Amsoil EAO17. All good choices. I am currently running the Amsoil EAO17, but they appear to be out of stock on their website. I had a couple on my shelf and did a recent oil change with one.

Good to know. I know you’re going to think I am crazy, but I believe the Amsoil filter is the same as the Fram endurance filter (made in the same factory). I also happen to know that the Fram endurance is out of stock, so I had to go back to a Mobil 1 filter. Maybe that factory is having a production issue. Hopefully they get things sorted out, because I was under the impression those were the best you could get when it came to fine filtration. Might have been sub 10 micron? I can’t remember for sure.

Welcome to your first post on the forum.

Wix filter. The extended warranty company does not care which filter you use. Call them and ask them. Whatever they say, have them send an email stating that.
5w-30 Valvoline Restore & Protect Full Synthetic oil. Again ask the extended warranty and get that email. If they say 0w-20 oil, again use Valvoline R&P full syn oil.
Main this extended warranty companies care about is that you change the oil religiously at the 6k miles or even sooner. I do mine every 4k miles.

Again, you asked and this is my opinion, only.

I believe Amsoil filters are made by Baldwin.

According to Google, Fram filters are made by the First Brands Group. Which filed for bankruptcy in 2025. So I don't know what happened to their line of products.

Told you or the contract says that? Two totally different things. That 3000 mile window makes no sense at all. I do change mine every 4k miles but that is just me.

Makes perfect sense, it gives them an out of the warranty. Book says X, warranty contract says Y which is stricter Warranty denied due to failure to maintain per warranty contract

I agree. After being in the shops over 40 years, I know what the extended warranty people do to get out of the coverages. But, the OP still has not said if was told or is printed in the contract.

Keep in mind that 'made in same factory' does not necessarily mean 'made to same specifications'; regardless of brand(s).

The contract stated every 3000 miles....

After my lifter failure, i contacted them and thats the first thing they asked. Told them i did my own oil changes and sent them the receipts for oil and filters. They then sent the page that stated oil must be changed every 3000 miles by a shop and had to show mileage.

I told them nobody changes their oil every 3000 miles anymore, they didnt care.

I believe any non dealership warranty will require oil changes more frequent than the manufacturer or oil companies recommend. My used car dealer service contract calls for oil changes every 4k miles using full synthetic oil, I didn’t buy it but that’s what they would have required.

Sounds like a way for them to weasel out of any warranty work...
