Has anybody painted the front air dam and the upper molding body color? I have a silver 16 Tahoe and do not like the dark grey color of the air dam and upper molding and was considering painting it body color to match the front fascia. I just think it would look much better in body color. I'm sure the air dam would be really easy to get stone chips, but just looking to see if anyone did this or not, thanks

This has been done.

Needs a solid APC thrashing first to get that textured plastic clean. Scuff or go flat initially, adhesion promoter, primer (will help fill in textured plastic) top coat, clear coat.

Here is a Chevy p/u with the lower valance CMd.

Here is a picture of my NBS with the bumper cap, grille and bumper CMd. Street truck and it has been painted this way for a couple of years. Only some road chips, but in otherwise great shape still. I did send it out to the shop rather than do it myself only because I wanted it on thick and done in the spray booth.

I took off my air dam so it is not CMd.

This isn't my vehicle but I had found these pics online quite a while ago, I know it's not a Tahoe, but should give you a pretty good idea...

You mentioned your Tahoe was silver, is it Quicksilver Metallic? If so I had also found some pictures of a GMC Sierra owner who had their factory chrome bumpers vinyl wrapped in 3M 1080-G120 Gloss White Aluminum and it matched pretty well.

Check it out here:

did that to my nbs and then a month later drove thru the desert, managed to hit a sand storm, it took every bit of paint off of that lower valance, took the shine out of the chrome bumper and made the headlights look like they had been hit with 100grit

Thanks guys for the info, since I'm not a painter I went to the dealer to ask them for a quote. They said no way can't paint it the surface is not smooth. I know some things about painting but no expert for sure, so I asked about sanding it down and then shooting it with color. They still said no way and they won't warranty the job. I think theyjust didn't want the work.

Yes the color is "QiickSilver" and never thought about getting it wrapped, thanks for sharing the pictures,

Dealership is lame. They just Can’t be bothered. It can be painted.

Like @Doubeleive said it will flake off if you Baja 1000 it. Dust storm not at fault lol if you keep it between the ditches.

Find a paint shop, they can make it or anything happen that you want.
