Tahoe DRL Blinker Switchback LED ReWire

I couldn't find a clear write up on how to do this, figured I'd give it a shot.

Parts:
--(2) Epoxy Rectifier Diodes #276-1141 By RadioShack
--(4) 3157 60SMD DUAL COLOR SWITCHBACK
--(2) Pico Light Bulb Sockets 5447PT
--(2) 50W 6ohm Load Resistors

1. Remove Headlight housing and wire harness

2. Cut the wires from the DRL bulb

3. Using a dremel tool, trim the two smaller tabs off the bulbs sockets
Normal:

After cutting tabs:

4. Wire one side of the resistor to the negative wire that was cut from the DRL and the other side it was cut from to the negative wire on the new bulb socket

5. Wire the other side of the resistor to the blue wire on the new bulb socket to the light blue wire with white stripe.

6. Wire the blue wire from the harness that connected to the old drl bulb socket to one side of the diode. Wire the other side to the brown wires on the blinker socket to the brown wire of the new bulb socket

7. Solder everything up and use heat shrink wrap to make sure nothing is touching. I put a layer of electrical tape over everything as well.

When I do my projector retrofit, I will figure out where to mount the resistor.

Weird that I was actually in the middle of doing this when I saw this post! I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong until I read this though, so thanks for posting! I'll have to wait for tomorrow to pick up the diodes. Blew a few fuses today lol

Just curious, if you had any issues with the one diode and resistor. I had done this mod following another members instructions using two diodes, one on the parking(brown) wire and the other on drl) plus two resistors, one for each bulb.

no wiring issues, my only wish is that the switchback amber color was brighter.

That's good to know. I'll probably try it this way, since one side has started to shutoff with the DRL on and works fine at night. I suspect the diode is failing. It had been over a year though with no issues.

I find the white too dim actually, might be due to the diode, but might try a different switchback style, just that they're so expensive.

Sometimes my passenger side turn signal bulb won't go white but works fine when turning, no idea what's up and don't really want to rip apart the front end when it only happens once in a while

It may be the bulbs you are using, I haven't noticed the issue that you are experiencing.

I was thinking one of the bulbs could be going bad. I drive 70% rough gravel roads so it is definitely a possibility.

Check the contacts good. Those slim metal rods sometimes don't make good contact. Bow it out a little

I started to do this (actually wired it up prior to finding this) and had it working as I wanted (my DRL turned off when park lights were on so I only had one park light on each side under the headlight), but undid everything b/c I didn't trust my diodes to last long. They got super hot within a few minutes. Anyone know which ones to use that will last for years? Removing the bumper has become all too routine for me and I'd like to stop the habit.

Are you using the same diodes that I listed? I haven't had any issues with them getting hot, I will check this weekend to see if they get hot or not. So far, no issues since I have wired these up.

I honestly don't remember, I bought the diodes about a year ago and just tried wiring it maybe a month ago
