1996 2 door Tahoe exhaust

I just bought a 96 2 door Tahoe in a auction I found out that the exhaust system was taken off. I was wanting to know would it be better to go with straight pipe or throw in a catalytic converter? I let me know what you think.

return it to a stock configuration but use better performance parts. if you are not in cali you can get a hp magnaflow cat assembly fort less the $400. www.amazon.com/Magnaflow-23453-Catalytic-Converter-compliant/dp/B000JKNGY8/

If you like loud then straight pipe it and run a o2 extension so it tricks the computer to think it has a cat. If not then get some flows and a hih flow cat

Going thru same dilema. magnaflow tells me there 23453 wont fit a 2 door,only a 4 door. flowmaster says there #2010023 cats will fit a 2 door. I measured length. sure looks like magnaflow will work. Possibly going to go with flowmasters force 2 cat back system and 1 or the other cat s.

odd a 96 unit is supposed to fit 4 or 2 i thought . it was the muffler section that was shortened for the two door.

just looked again at dealer drawings and part numbers cat are same part 2 or 4 dr. it is the muffler assembly that is different.

Mine has 2. 1 at the Y and the other after the cats.... But I seen other say they have 4.....

that is four.

any obd2 setup will have four total.

Mine had 4. 2 uppers and 2 lowers. When I had my hoe tuned I got my lowers turned off. At 50 a piece and deleting my lowers I save 100 bucks and if I need to I can all ways turn them back on

it can but the rear two just dont monitor the cats they help tweak the fuel trims slightly to make sure the the cats operate correctly and therefore have a better mixture to run off. so they do help a bit the cats that are installed. and state laws are not. removing or gutting your cats are are a federal crime. whether someone looks for them are not.

Really? They said won't fit 2 doors?

I just installed Magnaflow 45453, California version of direct fit cats on my 2 door, I believe 23453 uses same tubing as 45453 looking at pics and dims. Perhaps they were thinking of the cat-back system?

Straight forward job swapping it out, major PITA is unbolting the stock pipes off the manifods. This is after soaking the crap out of hardware 3 nights in a row with PB blaster.

it is suppose to fit 2 or 4 doors the 25453 in the non cali legal version. 45453 has a different more intense chemical build

yes. the difference in the two vehicle exhaust system is in the muffler section.
