well... assuming everything is FUBAR... I am going to drive it till it goes and drop another motor in it for somewhere between $1000 and $2000 and call it good. But thats assuming total FUBAR

If its less dramatic, than I will probably spend them money to fix the problem.

no, because finding a $2k civic that isn't molested in one way or another is no easy task. I would rather drop in a new motor for 2k and know that I have a few years of stress free driving.

interesting.....$2k civics around here are a dime a dozen..sure you have molested ones, but alot are clean

I do understand peace of mind but I also understand a soon to be money pit (which that civic might become)

My niece bought a 100k mile 1990 civic for 1200 about a year ago. Bought from the original owner (old lady) who couldn't drive anymore. It was CLEAN with just a few old lady parking lot dings :D

Around here the Honda's have all been messed with as well.

I would expect the oil to have a grey color to it if anything, not shaving or shine. You may have lucked out. Running low on oil is bad news though. Hope it works out.

I drive a '98 Chevy Prizm for my commuter. It's a good way to go if you drive much.

this one was hard to find for the price to be honest... but it was an original owner and totally unmolested and well kept (they had all the records).

Its going to sun devil automotive tomorrow... I am hoping (REALLY HOPING) that the cam skipped time. I know nothing crazy broke because it doesn't miss a beat while driving. But something is wrong.

I suppose the next best thing would be a bad lifter or two, or cam bearing or something. I would try to diagnose it myself but I dont think I would be very accurate.

If you consider a motor with 20 or 30k warranty will run no more than $2k... still worth the investment, when I drive nearly 1k miles a week for work and carting my kids around to sports. The tahoe is strictly a weekend driver these days.

you can find that motor for less than $700 at most junkyards, and to swap it would take you all of a long afternoon. run it till it dies and start looking for viable swaps in the meantiime.
