A parts list would be appreciated, too. I need to do this for my daughter's Sierra. Thanks! How'd you do it? Pics.

You have a guardian angel, or squad of them!
"Thank you, pastor Fless."That would be a "host" or a "legion."![]()

Do you know if that Transmission had been rebuilt before? The guy that went through my Transmission said he was having trouble with "new" planetary gears doing just that. I don't know if he was talking after market or OEM. He was at the point he was buying all the good used ones he could find.Tore down my old transmission today to see what I was going to need for the rebuild. Found this in the pan when I replaced it last month.View attachment 458509 Rear planet is completely destroyed lol. Somehow managed to get it back home 25 miles down the highway like this.View attachment 458507View attachment 458508
Not that I know of. Nothing in there gave me any indication that it had been torn apart before. Everything looked pretty well used. If it was rebuilt, it was a while ago.Do you know if that Transmission had been rebuilt before? That's a pretty impressive failure. Any idea what led to it or did it just grenade like that? Even more impressive that you got home with it.After further inspection and showing a guy at work, it has been apart before.
As of now, no. It went out exactly 1 week after I bought it so I didn’t really have it long enough to notice any symptoms. When I went up to buy it and checked the fluid everything was checking out fine. Fluid wasn’t brand new indicating he changed it to try and hide something but wasn’t dark and burnt either. Level was also good. Shifts felt good other than a 2-3 clunk at light throttle that every 4l60e I’ve ever driven has had. That's a pretty impressive failure. Yup makes sense. I've also seen planets also go if they weren't reassembled properly. Some of them have indexing marks on the gears and need to go back together the exact same way they came apart. Either way, I'm sorry you got stuck with a botched repair or rebuild job on that thing, and your theory that it was run low on fluid also has merit based on the evidence. As of now, no. I didn’t think it was rebuilt until someone I worked with pointed out the brass bushings, which he said weren’t in these transmissions from GM.
From what I read, the only reason a rear planet would go like that is from lack of lubrication. Maybe he ran it low for a while and topped it off a few thousand miles before I bought it. Could’ve also been worn out before the rebuild and was reused instead of replaced. Just from the research I’ve done preparing for my rebuild, I can tell whoever rebuilt it didn’t upgrade the parts they should’ve.
I’ll be rebuilding it myself. I’ve been a diesel mechanic for the past 6 years and done everything but a transmission rebuild and rear differential rebuild. I wanted to buy a core and rebuild it for the experience and maybe start a little side hustle if it worked out. didn’t plan on it happening this way.Yup makes sense. Will you rebuild it yourself or have someone else do it? I did a ZF 5hp-24 on my workbench a few years ago and it worked out great. It was the first autobot I'd ever done and it was a great learning experience.
Pretty! Does it scrape?
God Lord that truck is clean….. very niceQuest for a grey rear captain’s seat recline lever was successful yesterday at a small salvage yard I’d never been to. Did some touch up paint on the top. Got it all re-protected and cleaned up
