Misfire on cylinder 6 after cam and lifter install

Recently just did cam, lifters, push rods, and change the VOLM after a cylinder 6 lifter collapsed tore apart and went back together fine on start up 6 was a constant miss fire swapped coil, wires still no give took valve cover off on start up rockers move for 3 seconds then stop

Do you mean the rockers on #6 move for 3 seconds and then stop while all others keep moving? If so and assuming you put it all back together with AFM lifters and cam, then I would say you have a problem with either the VLOM or the lifters at the #6 cylinder.

Something is causing the lifters to enter deactivation mode. This is controlled by the VLOM. It's possible that you got a bad VLOM assembly.

Or maybe the VLOM has air in it and needs to be purged. Which requires a good romp of the throttle.

I would doubt that they would exchange it. They wouldn't even exchange my gaskets that were wrong.

When I replaced mine it was misfiring and throwing codes and going into limp mode. I double checked all my wiring and stuff and everything looked fine. So I got pissed off and revved the hell out of it to 5 or 6 grand and all of a sudden it cleared up and was fine. So the only reason I could think of was that purged the air out of it to operate properly but I dunno. Just sharing my experience.

I'd bet a bi-directional scanner, maybe even a Tech2, could activate the VLOM solenoids. It really does sound like a faulty VLOM. "Spent the extra money and got the Dorman"? Usually, when someone is trying to save money, they buy Dorman parts cuz they're cheaper than OE parts. Even still, new OE parts can be faulty out of box. Scanned for any codes? I'd guess a faulty VLOM or wiring. Maybe one got pulled out of the connector.

Only code is p0300 I have a hood scanner will try to activate tonight to see if I here the valve close and open

Hooked my scanner up cylinders 1,4,6 I would command the solenoid on it was a hit or miss with them clicking, cylinder 6 worked once, cylinder 7 would click every time

I’d say you found your smoking gun. Nice job.

Double check the harness and connector. If it's definitely the VLOM, spend the extra, extra money and get an OEM part. At least you won't need to replace any gaskets!

Just wanted to add: the Dorman company has an "updated Vlom" ... it is
an improvement from the OE vlom and from their original replacement vlom.
It's prob the only one i'd use. (now other dorman stuff "can" suck)

So, Dorman further improved on GM's improved VLOM?
