Paint touch ups and rust repair

Damn, you're making quick work of it. (Did I say that in another post haha)

If you were closer to me, I'd give you some material and consumables in exchange of you doing this to my Tahoe

Working on passenger fender. Pretty rusty underneath and about 3/4” up. Started with the vertical piece.

Got that sitting Flat. Made a template from the other side for the horizontal piece that goes underneath

welding it up on the bench and I ran out of gas for the welder. Crap To the store tomorrow I go.

Well about a thousand tack welds later. I’m low right where the welds are so worked good don’t have to grind welds any more. Haven’t done a light test yet. I’m sure I missed a few spots.
Did the cut and butt where you over lap then cut at an angle. This way when the panels close the gap gets smaller. Got it off a video. Worked well. My pic of the cut off wheel is exaggerated,about a 30*worked good.

Yeah I got some different paint from my paint code.707 Dark Labyrinth.The shop had 3 swatches for that code so hopeful.
Later tonight Ill do a test spot.

Working on this while bondo cures.

The bondo project. Have a high spot in the metal on the lower left. Tried beating in but didn’t move its right on bead right Where the backside is welded. I think I have to grind it down.

Ahh very cool. All the locals want to retire on a sale, so I went through gmparts and got my paint code and cans online.
I'll have to read up on blending peeled paint haha.

Im just a hack,Maybe fussier then some.

The colour of the primer made the first 2 coats look blue. I sprayed 4 light coats to hide the primer. These cans are 90% solvent so takes a few coats. I sprayed pretty thin also. Colour matches much better then my first can once the primer disappeared.

I’ll wet sand and spray again tomorrow.

Well hell, it doesn't look like hack work to me, and the finish is coming out pretty nice.

Living in snow and salt I dont expect these repairs to last a long time.

The running boards have done a good job of protecting the rockers.I was expecting rust when I removed them but their pretty good.

I have never got into body work before.
Coming from Boston down to NC. I've owned quite a few vehicles up there, never had any rust issues. Not sure why.
Bought a retired PPV from Raliegh and the rockers are gone, go figure haha.

You know, I don't think I have ever seen mud flaps on a GMT900 before.


Oh and I'm jelly of your HD. I just noticed this was on a 2500 in your sig .

Sanded over last nights test. Could still see my primer line so did a bit more 400 wet to disturb the line.

3 more coats of base kinda blended in and I’m on 3 coats clear. Learned my lesson on the last go. Not trying to blend clear I’ve sprayed the whole bottom this time.

Nice work there man, you got skilz and patience for that body work stuff. I HIGHLY recommend the Husky flaps. Here is a link to look up your truck and a few shots of mine installed. Fairly easy to install. A right angle adapter for your impact driver will help you work around the tires without having to remove them.

Working on lower wheel well in front of rear tire. Gave it a hit with a hammer and it all came crumbling down. Must be some structure behind as what’s left is pretty thick metal.

The bottom piece seams easy enough a couple of lips and done. The side piece however has two curves one in and one out but only a little. A friend borrowed me his home made English wheel. Seams to work just gotta keep at it.

I have had more than my share of that and trying to fix them, do not miss that at all.
