It'll be fine. You have it under control. I wasn't crazy about the color of the coating on the hard line but that's all Napa had in stock at the time. It's supposedly softer material, easier to bend...

Disregard pic quality. 2011ish. Not perfect but I had to get enough space between them for the fittings. It transitions to braided just behind that crossmember

Last minute "whoops" when i noticed i got all female ones.
but my hard lines will be female nuts and sleeves. :****: <--- they blocked the hu mp ing gif??!?!?!

I also ordered some double dik (double male ended) fittings.

Getting prepared for what I hope is the final round.
I pretty much have everything I'll need on hand except the crank.
Hopefully that comes this week, or early next week.

And the Jegs version is a bit cheaper.

Well, it looks like Summit racing posted a crankshaft i was looking for.
Not the stroker one, but it's the PN for the 2500HD 6.0

This should balance better than the 5.3 crank, since it's setup for a 4.0 bore.

What i don't know is if the 2500 uses the same flex plate/bolt pattern.

and just found out, GM shipped my crank already so $88 restocking fee.

Was visiting the in-laws this weekend, and we started talking garage heaters.
I mentioned my concern about carbon monoxide while i work on the tahoe.
and he mentioned that there are some long-term effects associated with it.

Got me thinking a bit.
so, I started looking at some electric garage heaters.

Then I confirmed that I have one 220v space that's not being used.
Has a 30amp breaker in it for a drier, but my drier is Gas and doesn't use it.

I have been wanting to run a nice 220 line into the garage for a welder anyways.
so "two birds one stone"

Now the issue,
I have a shelf right now in the garage, it blocks access to the wall that i would use to run the new line.
Plan is to get all of that crap into a shed this summer, but for now it's in the way.

Reviewing my options,
I have one pass through for my air compressor right now.
That goes directly into some 1in conduit, then out to the compressor shed.
I confirmed I have a nice straight run i can use for now.
It won't be pretty, but it will work.

Then this summer I can make it pretty with a nice, mounted Outlet.

If you have a properly burning heater, I don't think you'll have any issues with a ventless, gas option. Get a carbon monoxide detector and plug it in just to be safe.

I'd imagine an electric heater would cost a fortune to run but maybe they have improved over the years?

Yeah, I've been getting headaches working with the heater this year.
I also noticed some lightheaded feeling.

It also might be my propane source, I noticed almost a tar smell coming from the heater.

Or maybe something got damaged while it was in the air compressor shed,

either way.
I'm going to try electric.

this cost about as much as my propane heater did, but i won't need to deal with tanks.
And I can't wait to see my electric bill when using it.

downside, I have 6 propane tanks.
My grill runs off of the house natural gas.

I'll have no use for them.

That did come to mind as I was typing up my last lil comment about it.

Got my crank today.
confused me since it didn't have a summit racing label on it.
shipped in a crate that was cardboard and wooden ends.

Noticed it had been dropped a few times.
reluctor wheel managed to cut it's way through the cardboard.

Opened the box, found some damage to some of the teeth.

first few were not that bad, i touched them up with a light file
then as i turn the crank, the teeth get worse!

So i wheeled over the old 5.3 block and tossed in the original main bearings to do a spin test.
Slight wobble on the reluctor wheel...

Called up summit racing, spoke to a nice lady in OH.
they are sending a replacement out now, and i get to drop this one off at the PO.

I will also note, the crank Journals and thrust bearing surface is super smooth.
Polished!

Now i'm sure, the machine shop didn't do the polish right.

Got my new crank a little bit ago.
So far the crank looks great, no signs that it was dropped like the last one.

I also installed my garage heater last week.
Gave it a few test runs, and it's awesome.

No exhaust smell, it's quiet, and it gives the garage a nice pleasant warm compared to the propane jet heater.

I wired the outlet with a 50amp outlet, matched up the outlet type that I see most welders with.
Ran a short run to the breaker box with 6-gauge primary wire.
then I picked up an extension cord that's also 6-gauge wire.

Plan is that this socket will be able to run a 240v AC unit, Welder, etc.


I have been doing a little driving with the pressure gauges installed.

Watching the cooler line pressure vs the transmission line pressure
I see lots of jumping for the pressure line.

from my ATSG manual, it should be a steady sweep.
I'm starting to think that i do indeed have pump damage.
Or the gauge is faulty.

The cooler line pressure is mostly smooth and sweeping, but i found it's not always consistent.

the pump will be removed once i have the engine out.

If i find broken pump veins or other bad damage, i'm sending the converter out to be cleaned, and i'll do a tear down of the transmission.
Otherwise, it's getting a new pump either way.

The plan was to start tearing into the truck this weekend.
but when installing the garage heater, I had all of the wiring pre setup waiting for the heater unit to arrive.

Watching some videos on YouTube about that heater, I for some reason assumed the conduit holes were at the back of the unit.
So, I wired up a nice little plug using some corrugated plastic conduit.

I had the whole thing setup so the extension cord plug would come down from the top of the unit, so I could see the "powered" Led on the extension cord, and to be sure it's not blocking anything.

The plug was setup to come straight out the back.

But when I got the unit, I saw the little punch outs were on the side of the unit and not on the back.

Made it nice and pretty.

Decided I needed to give that conduit a nice little 90-degree L bend.
In order to do that, I needed to heat up that plastic.
With the heat wrap in place, I put it in front of the propane garage heater to warm it up.

I had an idiot moment while forming the bend and grabbed the middle with my bare hands.
Not realizing how hot this stuff was because of the heat shielding I installed...

well, that killed my weekend plans, so we ended up spending time with the in-laws.
We went antiquing, I found an old colt revolver that I had to have...

So next weekend I'm planning to start this.

One more annoying thing.

part of trying to get my hands on a new 5.3 crankshaft, I went to the dealership after gm parts online failed to get me my crankshaft.
They warned me that even though the dealership said they can get it, they don't believe that they can actually follow through with it.

And sure enough,
Even though they said it's "Shipped"
It seems to be lost, or most likely marked as shipped but never left.

Starting to close in on that 30-day mark.

I'm hoping I can have it marked as lost, that would save me the restocking fee...

But before it hits 30 days, if they still won't play nice.
then I'll go to the credit card company and see what they say about it.

I don’t know about how cold it gets where you are if if your garage is insulated but I am not sure you will be happy with that heater. In Wisconsin we need at least 3x that btu rating. My shop furnace is a 135,000 btu oil furnace. I have messed around with one of those and sent it back. Compare the btu output to your propane unit.

That is a worry.

I had a pretty small propane heater to start, but then when that died, I went with a forced air heater.

My garage door is insulated, I even insulated the little splits in the door since artic winds would cut right through them.
I also have the top and sides of the garage door sealed up nicely.
The garage itself is drywalled, but not really insulated.
I did add some wall insulation for the AC unit I have installed in the window, that wall got really hot in the summer, and it helped quite a bit.


but the propane heater i have is this one.

Even on the lowest setting, that propane heater is too much for my garage.
I have to run it for a little, and then turn it off or I start sweating.
On high, it heats my garage up to a nice toasty temperature in like 10 minutes or less.

I selected the 7500-watt heater after reading through some reviews.
Decided the 5,000-watt version was not enough.

It's pretty warm here right now, but @40 degrees it did great.
I found a fan helped a ton to circulate, and to keep the celling area cooler so the heater won't shut off so quickly.

Can't wait till it gets cold again so I can give it a real test.
