I was going for fleet mechanic.
Well if you have another vehicle you need to add dash accessories to, I have just the dash you need. It has cracks on BOTH sides, perfect for adding cables to multiple dash locations. For the low low price of $19.99. Shipping and handling not included and will be calculated at checkout. :hmmm2:

It’s amazing how that stupid crack changes how I feel about the truck. It’s like it reduces it to a lower status. Like it’s an old wood hauling farm truck now…

I will get used to it. It’s just another “thing” on the list.

The dash is in. Everything fits as it should. I still need to install the console and seats. I didn’t have to remove them but I find it easier to work on the dash without them in the way.

I bough thecopcar essentially for this reason, so it really doesn’t bother me.

Theothertwin I bought to use for my daily. The dash itself really doesn’t bug me. I do wish the “upper dash” wasn’t so broken up. I might find a skin just for that. I’d swap it from thecopcar, but am concerned I’d break up the good one in the process.

Arrrgh. That picture drives me absolutely nuts. Like the other one with the wires coming through the cracks. I’d get in an accident from constantly looking at it. :insane:

Looks great!! Got some final repairs done on my 07 over the weekend. Get the truck back today so I will be starting my dash swap this weekend. I bought this newer PN version myself so glad to hear you had no issues with it.

Did you install an aftermarket stereo? I was planning to do the same if so. Did you happen to do a write-up on that or could point me to one?

I didn't do a write-up that i can remember but it's possible. I do not have a link but if you want to look through my build thread you'll probably find it but beware, it's currently 273 pages long. I think it was before I did a complete interior swap from an LT to LTZ which is where I changed the entire dash from one style to the other, along with the door panels, console, etc. but before I did the Escalade cluster swap. There's a link to both my build threads in my signature at the bottom of my posts, if you don't see it you need to rotate your device to portrait mode.

Been combing through this thread and many others and there seems to be a ton of conflicting opinions; is there a cap/cover/skin option that goes over the existing dash? Or is it best to replace the entire plastic unit? Thanks in advance.

There are covers, like Dashskin, that get good reviews. And a case can be made that a replacement dash is better. It depends on your priorities...

Dashskin:
- Less expensive
- Easier install
- Proven to last a long time
- Looks less attractive than OEM
- Interferes with future dash removal if ever needed

OEM:
- Much more expensive, especially with shipping
- Much more work to install
- Some say even revised version can still crack
- Best appearance, since it's OEM
- Future dash removal unchanged

What are your priorities?

Thank you for the great reply and explanation; truthfully my main priority is really just getting rid of the rattling that is currently prominent due to the multiple sections being cracked. If i could get the noise to go away i care much less about what it looks/feels like.

If you don’t care what it looks like, get a cover. They glue in place and will hold the cracked parts so they don’t rattle if you use enough silicone or whatever they instruct you to use.

I didn't know anyone was saying this? I've never seen one crack a second time and I've been working on these trucks since they were new so I've replaced tons of these.
I have never heard of the revised ones cracking either.

Admittedly, I've got no direct evidence either, which is why I chose the words I did. When someone posts that "fact" it's always someone they know. I ask for proof, and it never materializes. So hopefully it doesn't really happen.

Why mention it at all then if you don’t know if it’s true ?

So someone I've never even met could bust my balls about it, apparently. I have read that it happens, leading me to be suspicious. I felt it was worth mentioning, provided I couched my statement in such a way as to convey it was merely spoken about. Thus the "some say" part of my statement. I'm not alone in my suspicion. Look at how many reinforce their replacements with epoxy, or add support under the center speaker.
