Possible fuel pump failure??

OTW to work this morning, get on the interstate and give it some gas. Downshifts, then starts to spit and sputter and buck and jump like a dumped the clutch in an old Nissan 5 speed truck. got out of it and eased backed into and seemed ok. Several times on the 20 or so mile interstate drive it spits and sputters, going up overpasses does the same thing. Seems like every time I went to give it gas it does it all over, spits and sputters and bucks and jumps. Sounds like fuel issue, possible pump going out. Any other opinions? Taking it to local dealership Tuesday morning to let them deal with it.

Any CEL's? How old are ignition related parts? Best to do a fuel pressure test asap.

Easy enough to confirm with either a fuel injection test pressure gauge (about $50) or a scan tool that can read live data to display fuel pressure.

It does sound like the pump.

Nope, nothing. igntion parts are stock and factory, I haven't changed anything. So, 12-13 years old.

If you have HP Tuners, can't you take a look at live fuel pressure pretty easily?

You should see a pretty steady 43 PSI with the engine running. Best to try and simulate the conditions that caused the stumble while monitoring the pressure. Maybe capture the trims as well.

Even if you find a bad fuel pump, depending on the miles, maintenance dictates that the plugs and wires be changed, clean or replace the MAF/MAP, clean the throttle bore and if mileage is high enough, change the O2 sensors.

Mine was giving me intermittent issues a couple of weeks ago. Would stall at stop lights, hard to start back up, then fine for a day or two. Pump was a bit loud and I had changed all the ignition parts in the last few months. Put in a new Delphi pump and runs as it should. I was at 160k miles and have put 1200 on since the new pump.

Yeah, probably need to do all of that.

If you want to keep the vehicle and don't change components when recommended, it will bite you in the ass eventually.

My dad used to call that breakdown maintenance instead of preventative maintenance.

Yes, tuners can see fuel pressure on a 2009. There's an off chance that the cats are clogged but not likely. Fuel pressure shouldn't drop more than a pound or two when you get on it. Post up your Long Term Fuel Pump Trim if you can see it. Mine's getting long in tooth, bounces between 1.5X and 1.4X.

Well, as I figured, it left me on the side of the interstate otw home from work. Just ran HP Tuners on it, at idle fuel pressure is 42-43 psi, but when you give it some gas it drops to 7-8 psi. And get these....
